Attack -- on the election now I'm joined by Republican pollster consultant Frank Luntz and frank it's great to have you -- this.

It.

Did this sad how effective visit how how much trouble for the -- Romney campaign.

I'm not sure it's effective -- you know the people begun to pay attention and -- You see you live by the sword you die by the sword Mitt Romney is running a campaign.

Based on his ability to solve problems -- ability get in -- and fix things.

That's a very positive attribute to have particularly in this economy and that this administration.

But that means that he's gonna have to respond to criticisms going -- to Bain Capital because that's part of his success story.

And the question that he's gonna have to answer is why dealing with these separate companies why in the end.

Spain is a positive for the economy which I believe it is.

But he's gonna -- explains the American people because by the time this election is over 99% of Americans are gonna know what being capitalists.

-- gonna know what bank account I would think that many from an early learning because -- -- on the subject of so and so many.

The of the debates of the discussions.

In media alike hours and also commercials that leverage it.

Here is the Romney.

I would call -- ready response.

-- Listen to the way in which the campaign has already.

Responded to those attacks.

Former Obama economic advisor and auto czar Steven Rattner the leading Democrat.

And I don't think there's anything Bain Capital they that they need to be embarrassed about -- the -- -- -- Capitol -- It is it is you don't want to support.

Business -- liberal businesses even Obama's own supporters have happen.

It's noisy and the American public enough is enough.

Mayor Booker former car -- Steve Rattner.

I mean that that's pretty court stopped.

It's good stuff in the run -- campaign has become much faster much more -- at responding but in the end the public's got to make a decision.

Does Mitt Romney no what they're feeling and does -- have the ability -- -- fix it.

On the latter question I think the answer is clearly yes it's one of the reasons why he's close the gap with Barack Obama.

One month ago he was down 67 points now -- within the margin of error.

Some polls even have come up a percent or -- On that first question does he understand the challenges that people face.

That's where the campaign's gonna have to focus over the coming weeks.

You know they're they're all sorts of issues that are that are brought up by -- Folks there who were neutral on the race observers if you -- political strategists saying.

The governor Romney is not sufficiently off that -- whatever that may mean to whomever is making me observation.

Do you get the sense that he is sufficiently authentic does she have -- much more to do.

To overcome these wherever he finds them deficits and connecting with voters.

We've got one actually -- that he has to drive again and again and again and again and that's studies a problem solver.

That's what he did in the Olympics that's what he did it -- that's what he did it as governor.

If he demonstrates that to the American people that he's a problem solver they'll let him solve their problems I think that's a key attribute.

Now flip that over to Barack Obama is a much better community care he it's it's that it's he feels your pain.

Now -- -- causes your pain but at least he -- that -- it's causing it.

And so you've got Romney who doesn't connect as well there's a great record.

Barack Obama who connects better but doesn't have a good record.

In the end the American people have to decide to they want style -- -- they want substance pain clause.

We're talking 23 million -- 325 million people unemployed underemployed given up.

Being employed we're talking about a war in Afghanistan one in in.

Our our Iraq now having -- wound down.

We're talking about a global war on terror we're talking about a housing market that has effectively collapsed and it is he's all but moribund.

We're we're talking about an economy that is barely growing.

-- What in the world -- -- going to take.

For a candidate who cannot make strong inroads against.

This president's approval rate.

But you've got -- as very simple questions what if you solved.

And what are the results.

Are you better off now than you were three and a half years ago and are -- gonna be better off in the future.

It that the problem and I don't want.

Some insulting but the problem.

Is that the American people as time goes on as he used to television as -- get used to it to their laptops as they become more communication oriented.

They're less about -- I'm afraid that there are less about substance and more about style.

Well you've got four years of great style.

Now is it time for competence I think that's the question that Mitt Romney needs to ask.

That's those are that's uninteresting construction we're going to see in the weeks that that a person.

How the American people answer that Frank -- great to talk with you thanks for being here come back -- please.

You've got its -- up now.
