I'm Adam Shapiro -- Fox Business -- the sell -- on Wall Street continues in afternoon trading fresh concern over the European debt crisis.

He's overshadowing some upbeat earnings reports from Wal-Mart.

Right now the Dow is down roughly 98 points.

On the flip side investors are taking a shine to gold the precious metal breaking a string of losing sessions and bouncing off a ten month low.

Gold up two and a half percent higher to close at 1574.

Dollars and ninety cents an ounce in New York trading.

And business conditions for mid Atlantic factories dropped to their first negative readings -- eight months the latest manufacturing index from the Philly Fed.

Fell to meeting of negative five point eight.

Readings below zero indicate contraction.
