I'm Robert Gray with your Fox Business -- All three Detroit automakers our variable sales figures General Motors is down 8% compared to the same time last year.

But the company is raising its forecast for industrywide auto sales this year to more than fourteen million vehicles.

-- -- sales were also down 5% but Chrysler reported its best April in four years with sales jumping 20% from a year ago.

The manufacturing sector last month expanded at its fastest pace in nearly a year of the institute for supply managers' index posted a better than expected reading of 54 point eight.

A measure of employment also hit a nine month high.

And construction spending in March rose for the first time in three months but while spending was up 110 of 1% that month.

February's number was revised lower.
