Blamed for the slew of scandals and will they lead to a new resident come November joining me now Bill Kristol editor of the weekly standard.
Bill first I want to start with some news that you guys are breaking at the weekly standard about large donations.
You the president some 500000 that was bundled by Jon Corzine Jon Corzine of course at the heart of the scandal with MF global that went belly up.
Lots of that clients' money missing now.
Tell us more details.
Well the Obama administration released the list of -- and their various interest and characters on that.
I think that if you step back -- the biggest thing that strikes me is how much the Obama -- the Obama campaign this time.
They've totally lost that sense is something new something hopeful changed popular participation -- a bottom up.
The real citizens movement some of that was always that maybe spoken -- but they did a pretty good job of -- conveying that impression 20072008.
An awful lot of independent voters thought you know what this is something -- this is something refreshing.
Let's give the guy a chance this is really incumbent administration hunkering down raising money.
Many when they can lot of bottlers -- sort of dubious connections to lobbyists and other characters.
And I do think that's gonna hurt President Obama this.
Well what does -- tell you that this week alone we've had at least two.
New scandals breaking Secret Service.
The GSA.
-- -- it's meant we've been talking about -- for months where's the Boston Washington.
Are these agency just doing whatever they want.
And -- would distinguish the Secret Service -- that it is guy's behaving badly ended not to defend them but.
It's as though -- from from the actual expenditure taxpayers' money.
And by the GSA or the foolish policies pursued by the Energy Department which resulted insulin drug that may -- -- entirely candid about.
The some of those policies either.
There I think the president can be held accountable.
And I think more broadly look he's been president for three and a half years he's the guy who has expanded the federal government that's just a fact and defends that expansion and attack someone like Paul -- for trying to start trimming.
Federal spending.
So we have a party government and a party that wants to reform government and cut government some.
And I think the more voters look at what the federal government actually does with the voters money citizens' money -- day week to week.
I gotta think being the guy that Mitt Romney the guy wants to clean up Washington the guy wants to reform and trim the federal government.
I think that's that's a pretty good place to be politically.
-- you say -- the party of government I had angry with you that's a great way to put it.
But they can't manage spears and there's no ability to -- to run things if you gonna have a big government at least be able to run the thing so what makes that's right.
Now that is a good point actually you know -- I have thought about that some.
If you're an ideological conservative you just don't like big government -- O'Connor reasons even if it's well managed may be actually I especially if it's well managed to reckless dangerous.
But I think you know but -- we have -- -- -- they -- not gonna get rid of it we're gonna have a pretty big government indicates threading in that case citizens are entitled to say you know what if -- gonna take my money.
Let's use it well it's one thing to send checks -- senior citizens which you know -- at least the Social Security system works well apparently.
And then released Medicare does provide health care -- for costs awful lot.
But this GSA scandal really does bring home a kind of culture of not just waste that you can insane extravaganza contempt contempt for the taxpayers an -- for the taxpayer he got that right absolutely comes through loud and clear.
