Delta's feud with the export import bank is heating up the back is supposed to give loan guarantees and subsidies overseas customers.

Of US companies and supporters say it helps US businesses but.

Delta says it's killing jobs in the US -- -- Delta Airlines senior VP and General Counsel.

Joins me now Ben thanks for -- -- so let me dispel it out -- -- can you tell me from going wrong here.

XM essentially gives for an -- your competitors.

These breaks in order to buy planes essentially from Boeing let's face a Boeing gets more these things and any other these credits and any other company.

How does that affect delta directly.

-- what happens is.

The export import bank finances about a third of the aircraft the Boeing sells.

These are all to foreign airlines that compete directly with Boeing and -- -- -- don't.

So basically our government is subsidized saying.

The acquisition of Boeing aircraft for our competitors they end up.

Buying these aircraft that -- considerably lower capital cost than adults are rather.

Airlines have who have -- under the market to get financing.

And so they can come into markets.

-- if basically have four million dollar a year advantage so it's as if we're we have a handicap of four million dollars a year that we've got to make up.

Before we Begin to have a level playing field and a lot of these airlines today.

Are very profitable and do not need a credit -- -- narrow -- really foreign airlines and they're already.

In many cases either subsidized by their own governments are -- operating under looser labor laws than we have.

Some of them.

And around the US taxpayers I get a OK let me just ask you -- for specifics here because we don't have much time.

Are you suggest and something believe industry with American Airlines -- American Airlines itself.

Might have been pushed over the edge in a Chapter Eleven because.

Of this rule is that true.

Well there are many factors and Americans.

In americans' problem right now on this may be one of them because American operates internationally and obviously faces.

Foreign competition.

Originally us talk about how event -- let's talk about delta because you had air India for example got a loan from ex im bank.

I'd -- purchase of Boeing planes and you suggest that that affected your run to India correct.

Well it really do in effect drove us out of the New York Bombay market.

We were operating profitably there air India got loan from the export import bank they bought.

Too long -- Boeing triple seven aircraft they put those on the root against us.

Fares dropped by a third from about 12100 dollars on average about 800 dollars those upper levels lower costs and we had to pull out.

So what do we do do we kill the export import bank or what well.

But what we -- we don't think the issue is whether or not the export import bank should be re authorized what most people.

Agree as a matter policy that there shouldn't be export subsidies but in the real world.

Other governments subsidize their companies and the US government has to make some kind of -- -- response but.

The statute that the bank operates under requires they balance the effects of what they do.

Against the facts on companies like delta in the U us congress understood that that could happen.

And the bank has not been doing that so the real issue isn't whether the bank should be reauthorize as we see it.

It's whether or not the congress should require specifically.

That the bank consider the effects on airlines when they do aircraft in advance.

Ranked Dan -- we'll see what they do Delta Airlines senior vice president General Counsel Ben thank you very much appreciate it now my pleasure.
