-- are -- we get them.
-- -- You can use natural gas to make -- we were just talking about what we could use all this cheap natural gas for Celanese corporation has technology now to do that to make ethanol.
From natural gas and they see it's cheaper than -- Stevens Darren is Celanese corporation CFO and the president of their -- field division he joins us from Dallas.
They you so much for joining us because I have covered energy for a long time but I did not know.
That you can use natural gas to make ethanol -- a lot of people out there doing this.
Hi Melissa thanks for having me on -- and -- in honor to be with you.
It's not a surprise that a lot of people don't know about this.
Because this breakthrough.
Is it is a recent a new breakthrough for Sony's.
-- proprietary to our our technology base.
Celanese is a technology in specially materials company and we've been in the business of taking natural gas.
Or C one in converting it -- -- you.
Liquids like -- -- and other chemicals.
Other going to paints and coatings on plastics.
430 or forty years.
And so -- we've just recently broke through and had the ability now to okay due south -- all using some more technology.
Is it cheaper to make ethanol out of natural gas than it is to make it out of corn for example.
But absolutely absolutely in fact today.
For gasoline it well.
But I'm comparing -- if you make -- out of court has you know I don't see there's a big push in this country to make ethanol from corn.
Some say it's a subsidy for for farmers -- the midwest but at you know I just wanna comparative Christmas it's cheaper to use natural gas is -- cleaner.
Did.
Did it we we think it is you know we think there's three criteria to look at.
When comparing.
RF and also corn -- and all.
Or other gas to -- technologies.
You know one is how much energy media to put in to get and Henry molecule energy out very in the second is that cost yet.
-- the second is costs.
And the third is the overall comprehensive environmental impact.
And we think across all three of those suspect terms but our technologies advantage vs corn.
OK in it can you compare it to just regular all the gasoline that you make from crude oil.
Is it looked at a cheaper I mean -- -- it's gotta be a lot more expensive.
To make ethanol from natural gas to run your car for the same amount of distance that it is to use good old fashioned fossil DO right.
Believe it or not it's not our technology is very efficient.
And we can take natural gas especially at prices that we've seen in the US.
Over the last year -- -- even above today's levels and have a liquid that on an energy basis is cheaper than gasoline.
Food okay I'm have to see the map on that for sure afterwards but -- let me ask you you say that there is one thing that's standing in the way -- this is kind of the important point.
Is that the government is blocking you from doing this vs making ethanol out of court is that true.
Yeah -- you know that that's really the unfortunate part you know as we think that.
Technology like C you know you mentioned having -- natural gas that trying to find a way to use -- natural gas.
We can -- that's -- our technologies ready to go in fact.
Because of the renewable fuel standard.
We're not allowed to participate on the market in the United States but we've gotten tremendous interest from other countries don't -- -- were ready and yeah we're ready building a plant in China and other we'll start up next year but you know we really -- -- see this technology.
Be considered in the US because it is it adds jobs thousands of jobs per facility.
When you do the construction.
Billions in capital.
And and hundred can take pressure off of food prices as well as gasoline that -- -- and.
Again Stephen the most important point that we're making the beginning here is we have this abundance of natural gas right now it's so cheap it's under two dollars a unit we have all -- -- going on in the country.
So we want to figure out how to make use of this natural resource we have right now you've come up with a good idea to put -- -- we're gonna stay on top of that -- -- -- thanks so much for coming -- we appreciate it yeah.
