Question we've been -- this -- some time.
Are Americans especially young people qualified for the work force we brought you several stories recently of open jobs in this country without suitable candidates to -- look.
Joining us now is frank -- -- these with the ignition partners frank is I venture capitalist Connick guy frank welcome of the program glad to be here right.
You know you have to you're telling us that there are plenty of geniuses out.
Really high caliber people who starts up high tech companies and -- do incredibly well.
Now I want you to give us your assessment in -- position of -- What's the quality of the work force the youngsters just the general workforce in the budging from college from good.
Bad in different lazy -- Well the quality workforce clearly is not lazy.
We have people coming out of schools that really do you want to have jobs.
I'm in the business of job creation summit venture capitalists I put money to work fundamentally that money goes to work and you headcount is created.
And we do see a lot of lead time between the creation -- open headcount and actually filling it.
And the entry level positions are really hard to fell one.
I think it's largely a question of awareness very early on as people even Begin their careers in university system.
And even before that in high school and a lot of that is just a pure fact that even their parents are not aware.
I'm the kind of jobs that will be available win their children graduate from universities is is this real basic stuff that they -- to welcome time.
Oh -- everyone gets to work on time -- to the call in sick without being sick.
We don't see that happen to -- they gossip in the workplace backbiting constantly to -- that unfortunately we see that more often and we'd like to see do they get stoned.
I'm not at work do they -- -- -- a look in a condition to go to war.
In all of the companies that we have and my observation the folks arrive on time -- kinda condition you want him to be at the work in the office.
They do their jobs diligently and with great passion that's -- hard for we -- for -- -- would have gotten -- jobs if we didn't see that.
I think -- -- really great point that coming in as a freshman I didn't even know these jobs are going to be available when I graduated because they worrying created.
-- technology world in particular changes so quickly so what am trained for now.
He's arguably not useful so why go to college bound and -- there's a -- got to cut there's up.
Answer what -- so with the university system does gives you really balanced.
Perspective.
On the kind of things you can do you and the kind of things you can -- the university system largely.
Teach you to learn and teaches you to gain a passion for the kind of things that you wanna deal but does it really I mean look at we we just talked about a ports and on Barack Obama's Latin may use these are you know -- man -- interest in.
Object lesson but what does that tell you about business.
Well I think it's.
What if things it's really incumbent on those of us there in business is to reach out the university system more often than not and more much more early don't think it is cold shoulder when -- -- that though there yeah I would say absolutely not like I get out regent University of Washington all of the time to go spend time with both undergrad and graduate students might one of my companies -- -- which is here are RPI graduates.
The CEO Sinclair sure he spends a lot of time -- at the university and even the local high schools in Clifton park.
Trying to educate parents about the kind of jobs and available at this is college a good deal.
Look college is a pre requisite I'll I'll -- that it is a prerequisite.
It's a prerequisite.
In a lot of ways in particular it gives you the opportunity for student.
To get exposure to lots of different things if he didn't go to college it will be hard to get exposure to lots of different things the people say in technology you can just go straight line.
Michael get a job as a software tester went into -- feed your family that way.
But that might not be for everybody and their first job intake may not be the one he takes forever and I think without going to university.
In the end up lacking the broad perspective that you need for a full career in -- I'm officially -- frank but I do know what you're talking about frank -- tell everybody thank you very much for joining us and we appreciate -- -- to be here thank you.
