That it was an eight point seven -- Indonesia's geophysics agency has issued a tsunami warning saying at least one aftershock in not to it was a magnitude of eight point eight.
The original quake struck 308 miles southwest of the city of bond.
An aftershock registering a magnitude six point five was also felt in the area.
Sri Lanka has also issued a tsunami warning and a tsunami watch remains in effect for several nations.
According to the Pacific tsunami center tremors also were reportedly felt in Singapore Thailand and southern India so far there are no reports of damage or rising water levels but Indonesia's disaster management agency said power was down an -- For more on that quake and tsunami now let's go over to meteorologist -- -- and the Fox Business whether senate.
Maria give in -- what the Pacific as nominee warning center is saying now what do you think people should do to prepare and how much damage should we expect in the area.
Well a lot of rising water level of just a couple of inches doesn't mean is in a major deal but any time you have a tsunami warning issued for your area you've got it.
Take precautions and I mean stay away from the water go to higher.
Ground because there's still that possibility of a tsunami occurring in your area and similar rises in water levels initially maybe lower.
And a way that maybe your writing later on and we can see -- between 52 minutes.
When our between -- so of course again if you have a warning you gotta take precautions.
How common is it for an earthquake of this magnitude -- to hit.
Actually very unusual -- on average -- -- actually see about one earthquake of a magnitude eight point oh or greater.
In the whole world a year or so again very unusual but the location of this earthquake is an unusual we do actually have a -- -- out here.
And that's why we're seeing some earthquake activity out here we do also we've had history of very strong earthquakes occurring in this area -- -- -- December 2004.
That massive tsunami that was triggered by an earthquake.
Magnitude nine point one in this very -- area causing a lot of damage and also unfortunately many many fatalities so.
-- and keep you posted on this developing story because things can change.
That that earthquake that occurred in 2004.
Was upgraded from an eight point eight to a nine point one so we can still see that number change.
Primary able continue to watch this closely thanks so much for -- that.
And as we mentioned some of that shaking was felt in Singapore as well we have Fox Business contributor Katie sergeant there.
To tell us all about it and Katie what it'd feel like to you and what are you hearing now.
Well we often not steal the tremors from the earthquake that hit in Indonesia where a little bit protective -- but we definitely feel -- This particular one I did not elect all -- local news report does basically building called around the island from people who did steal it.
Other -- in this report discovered along the West Coast of Malaysia is in the north of here and we're highland as well.
There was a record of that the airport in.
-- -- highland has been closed I was it -- very somebody at a hotel near the airport and that they were definitely getting ready.
Break in that might happen that -- I talk to him probably about twenty minutes ago -- that if anything were to come their way.
It was expecting it was -- -- just a few minutes of our congress patient.
Instead.
So what -- -- that they did not see the water -- being from the beaches like they did in 2004.
The that was but there was a little bit different still they -- they evacuated the entire hotel -- everybody inland and they were just waiting just in what would happen.
A -- hiking about some of these aftershocks there was a report of the six point five aftershock but at the latest information that was -- On the US Geological Survey map shows quite that the point 05 points -- I'm sure will be -- -- a lot of different numbers in the hours ahead that at this point there has been.
No record of that major damage in that region but that could be and it is due in part of the lack of communication from the not -- now.
Well we hope that's not the case -- -- please stay safe and we'll continue to checking to -- her updates on this thanks so much there.

Over in -- we're seeing stocks rebound a bit from yesterday's sell off miners.
We're getting a boost on those Alcoa results you can see markets there were in the Green across the board Asian markets finished the day off in the -- we'll see how they -- tomorrow and they -- commodities those are in the -- across the board.
