Welcome back to a special edition of the Willis report look we're looking at health care and the Supreme Court today joining me now.
Doug Holtz -- the president of the American action forum and a former CBO director -- Grover Norquist president of Americans for Tax Reform.
Let's start with what seems to me to be the rising cost of obamacare not just tax is that every time I turn around there's yet another number.
For obamacare originally the president said it would be 938 billion now we're looking at almost twice yeah.
Do you think that -- is going to go even higher.
I'm the budget though is that this bill is passed without the usual budget gimmick put a bunch -- -- at the front.
-- the real cost hidden outside the window at the back we're starting to see the full cost now.
It didn't do anything to control rising health -- -- you see that bill go up and where a lot of people unemployed has been bad economic policy.
They're all gonna go into the exchanges and pick up the subsidy so it's gonna continue to grow.
You know what's interesting is the president originally said that it's it's something like 2200 dollars per family's premium every year in fact just the opposite -- happen.
It's gone up by that much in more.
The promise was down 2500 dollars we're seeing premiums go up and again you can Trace some of that to obamacare itself.
If you -- putting taxes into the pipeline that's a cost increase up -- the cost of insurance.
He put -- on insurers -- goes because insurance mandate extra benefits of those were -- internationally around.
So the answer yeah.
It's good enough.
Several western EU for a second -- -- wanna talk about taxes this is something a lot of people have not focused on the cost of obamacare -- terms of healthcare costs.
But also taxes it looks like it's something like 420 billion by ended up -- numbers are in -- twenty different taxes and again.
They come in at different points the way.
Obama -- put together thoroughly political has nothing to do it Madison.
They wanted to get things passed and then.
The taxes -- then later and later I'd lean after many of them come in after the 2012.
Election I'm not quite sure vascular health care but I know it had to -- up.
So that really paying for that the taxes that will of course increase the cost of health care like medical devices that stand.
All sorts of medical devices there's now an excise tax cut and FSX.
-- upon those -- how does -- reduce the cost of health care to tax the part of health care of course who doesn't make healthcare more expensive government makes money.
But it's more expensive for you or your reference -- -- consider the most onerous tax in this group.
Well I think most insulting -- that the taxes on health savings accounts and flexible accounts.
The ones that take the kind of health insurance that that millions of Americans have.
That that gives them more control and it it does taxes your first had to destroy.
Health savings accounts flexible savings account -- that was one of the -- benefits for families people who -- using that is that's why the administration which is trying to.
Move people in.
Towards single Payer and then tend to destroy the kind of health care people want to have to force -- in different directions.
-- of the president's promise one of the promises which was if you like your health insurance you can keep that.
Well not the way they're taxing -- and regulating it did deliberately destroying options and then the options that are left -- you can have one of those.
Well I I you know -- -- -- of mystifying to me -- of course one of the things we found out today.
It's at the lawyers at least -- finding a way to make a little bit of money on that yet and I will hold up one of an amicus briefs here.
That I was -- -- given to me by faculty and this.
Does not come free of my show people the costs of this 3.4 million to seven point eight million dollars for the 130 so -- of his briefs filed with the Supreme Court this is -- overtime for lawyers they're making all kinds of money writing these things that.
Does it does is make a big difference -- the end of the day given the justices are really.
I can dispute marks -- -- in the eleventh circuit that the court -- our -- brief.
Enough overturn the individual mandate.
That gave me -- -- -- hope to pay lawyers for three more brazen and derisive -- tonight.
There is no economic foundation to the government's argument if you look at the numbers where they claim there's a mandate to stop people from shifting costs the people.
The mandate in fact have twelve billion dollars less than one half of 1% public costing us health care system so there's no economic foundation under the justices' notice that well.
Today it just say that it did it goes on an -- I wanna talk a little bit about -- costs of Medicare.
When that program was put in place a long time ago now -- 66.
The estimate of what it would cost today.
They were wrong by a factor and it's.
And that tells me there's probably Iran calculation here with obamacare.
-- -- the last time you heard the government.
-- how much something would cost whether it's building a high school and in your local town for building a road roads have been built before this community -- no surprises in the in building -- and -- still and they build some.
Bomber aircraft carrier maybe there was something new or different but the cost overruns you get in simple things when the government does that things that have been done before like health care.
Medicaid Medicare every time the government stepped in Massachusetts says that the Massachusetts.
Health care system all of these things cost more and if that hasn't happened yet the cost estimates are -- there are climbing.
Before we get there why -- telling us this now why didn't they spend that time in writing the bill to know what.
They -- well we know -- look at another entitlement program at the end of the day can't.
Because what happens -- -- title I programs.
They're become more and more entitled because it's in the political systems DNA it's a handout more goodies.
This is gonna get worse -- to American families both making 70000 dollars.
Once daily at 7000 dollars in benefits because their employer doesn't offer insurance to -- there's not gonna get anything's employer does.
That's an injustice that we just cry out to be fixed and we know how to -- how -- Texas they'll give -- about.
-- -- that there's only one way these costs are gonna go up and that's absolutely.
Perhaps again yes.
So -- more taxes to cover that.
More taxes trial lawyer to figure out how to keep chewing the system and getting erection and because trial -- The watch -- the bigger piece of the by the -- have to raise everybody's taxes and everybody's premiums.
And will be siphoned off by trial were siphoned off by bureaucrats can imagine the bureaucracy that.
What is -- the British system is the third largest entity in the world.
The American what is going to be bigger -- and the -- are always number when the camera and the taxes through this people don't like taxes they'll do mandates disguised taxes are always harmful.
Sorry guys that were we right back with -- in just its.
