Stand two years in CAD Prager is the Kansas insurance commissioner and past president.
Of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners thanks so much for joining us today.
And you know -- stats about the percentage of people.
Who are against obamacare I wonder if there really seeing it in -- -- around -- can you tell me what has changed in your state.
That's already in a fact as a result of obamacare.
Well thank you for the opportunity to be with you think -- I -- in Kansas we have kids that have gone back on their parents' policies you know during this current economic and environment it's.
Some of these kids are leaving college -- don't have good jobs and don't have jobs that provide coverage so that's been a real billion.
People are getting first dollar coverage for preventive services.
Are some of our seniors many of our seniors are.
Taking advantage of the doughnut hole closing in the -- the so called doughnut hole in the -- prescription drug plan for.
Effort senior citizens so.
Those are a couple of I think important provisions in the -- you know -- bulk of it goes into effect in 2014.
-- let's talk about some of the things that you just mentioned how about young adults staying on their parents' plans.
You know I was reading about this and a lot of times it's parents who are on their work plans to their kids continue to -- on -- there.
Do you worry that those people may be didn't get raises as a result -- meet somebody's got to pay for that something employer then he's for extra people.
To be on their insurance.
That money's gonna come from somewhere it's either pass on to the customer comes out of what would have been played paid to the employee you know.
Well it that's always possible yes.
But Melissa but I I think that the studies have shown that it really has not had a significant impact you know these certainly in -- in many cases these are young.
I'm probably pretty healthy kids that don't really have much in the way of health care costs but but you're right that it it is a requirement.
The employer coverage has to include dependence or -- they would be a child would not -- -- eligible to go back on.
It and do you think have you seen any health care savings in your state as a result I mean this is was supposed to save money in the long term have there been any cost cutting benefits.
Well long term is the operative word there that it cost savings art are yet to be seen.
I mean presumably if you get everyone covered we have more people in the pools.
That could help stabilize rates the more important.
Cost saving is going to occur when we.
Really redesign the way we pay for health care services we currently have a fee for service system which just creates an and -- to do more to get paid more.
And and does it really focus on it doesn't focus on.
The right things that are part of the Affordable Care Act is doing these accountable care organizations and I think -- That that may may help us bring costs under -- real quick before we go what they do polls and it shows the majority of people would like it repealed at least part of it why do you think people are against it right now.
I think a lot of it is the rhetoric -- I think I think the individual mandate has.
Is not popular.
If it is overturned.
There are other ways of encouraging people to buy coverage but to tell an insurance company they have to cover every one.
-- regardless of -- status and then not puts some requirement on the part of individuals to buy the average before they need it.
That's a record that's just -- -- recipe for disaster because.
Prices will go through the -- so.
We we have to find a way to get everyone to buy coverage of the mandate.
Which I think is the most unpopular -- -- but you know we're.
Fiercely independent as Americans we we value our independence and I so I think.
With we get this behind us one way or the other there will have -- will go forward with with hopefully.
People being able to see some of the benefits it's a work in progress -- still areas that are going to have to be dealt with going forward.
Cost being probably one of the biggest.
RE CD there's a lot of what you just said that eggs even more questions but unfortunately we're out of time -- hope you'll come back thank you so much for coming on today I'd love to.
You bet thank you.
When you net saying diamonds are -- fast and they are different levels of the waiting for all day should it may also be in an investor -- best interest.
