We're going down to DC right now bring in McAllen with -- -- now former official of the Department of Transportation.
Free I'm glad to hear am glad you're with us -- as we were just talking about oil.
Getting into the states -- the keystone XL pipeline is not happening or may be that knows at this point right but what do you think about what the White House is doing with our energy policy.
Well -- it's a little bit too little too late the president's taken it on the chin for higher oil prices and I think you're gonna see him get -- Cushing Oklahoma tomorrow and try to claim victory on the lower portion of keystone but.
The problem is that the administration.
It just has a bias against fossil fuels.
And we hear that at a secretary of energy and Stephen -- Truly believe that it dire gas prices would actually be a good thing for us because then it would get us off it.
The parents and though is they can't be that -- right -- know this is gonna take -- years.
-- to keep -- white kind of soft now.
Well you know the fact is there are those out there who believe the only way to wean us off fossil fuel.
Is to make alternative forms of energy.
A good cry at a good price point the only way to do that is to raise the prices of fossil fuels -- -- raising good point I mean over the next thirty years world energy demand is going to increase by 30%.
We need to use alternative technologies we need to use bridge technologies but we can't get there by demonizing fossil fuels.
So what do we do do we.
-- -- mart and home I mean there's also those people out there that was say that will make a dent even -- well I don't there was trillions and stop buried in the search.
Her right there is I mean that's one of the problems the president recently said that the US has only 2% of -- World's oil reserves but that's a dated fact from the seven days in fact the more recent reports -- come -- and said we have sixty times that amount.
We need you know conservation is good new technology is great.
But we need to not tie our hands behind our back there is a lot of oil and gas that we can get -- now because of newer technologies and we need to be developing those.
What has to happen I mean I think come now let this can be huge issue come election time.
Gas prices are teetering around four dollars right I mean it's there's states here in new York New Jersey Connecticut all paying a well over four dollars already.
What are we need to hear out of this administration in order to make it better.
-- -- sitting here is a good point and and we need to hear out the administration is that there all land -- all options are on the table.
And they can't pick winners or losers in the energy market like they've done with the -- lender and some mothers they have to be open to understanding that.
We need new infrastructure we need new pipelines we need to approve not only just the southern portion of keystone XL but we need all of keystone XL.
And we need to develop.
Our oil and gas base in a reasonably reliable and safe manner that's what we need to be -- to.
And are not for some reason.
This whole notion you know that we're gonna try -- -- That didn't go over very well.
We do need to try that things right let's talk about natural gas a little bit because then it's true natural gas actually could be the Arab -- grace could.
Absolutely I mean we have -- reserves of natural gas that are untapped we have great technology the -- that is exploring them but again.
You know we've got some that are opposed to development of natural gas.
You served as deputy administrator for pipeline and hazardous -- say the straight materials -- administration.
There's a lot of people out there that are and the greens in particular the Green agenda is very concerned that they'll be -- and all these pipelines.
But but history has shown us that's actually not true right.
Right no it's not true I mean you know it pipelines are the safest form of energy transportation that our country has there many times safer than rail.
Or truck and that's not say that rail and truck current safe but when you look at the statistics they're very very safe and if -- -- have talked a lot of the environmentalists that are opposed to keystone and they say point blank look it's really not -- the pipeline.
We -- opposed to fossil fuel development and were opposed to bringing.
To allowing -- to exploit their oil -- and that's really what the opposition is it has very little do with the pipeline and everything to do with larger policy picture right.
And and you know -- recent poll says that.
65% of people surveyed disapprove of president Obama's.
Energy policies in general I know he he.
-- can't fix it all but I would I would think that if he sent a better message the oil markets would react positively I think right now -- -- markets are telling us is.
Where we have no idea what's gonna happen no one's controlling I ran somewhere that knows they're gonna send prices.
Through the -- Well that's a that's a it's a very good perspective and if you look just with the Saudi oil minister coming out yesterday and saying if needed.
They can ramp up production you saw oil fall from.
From near a 115 down to 105 unit overnight so you know political message can make a difference in the president needs to step it up.
Think it's gonna be a big issue in November.
They should be huge issue November -- remember when president came in office oil was at forty dollars a barrel and you know it's nowhere near that.
-- it's not and gas and I'm not mistaken was under two dollars at the time frame thanks so much for being with us and sharing your thoughts on -- -- My pleasure thanks for inviting me -- come back come back bring -- account former official Department of Transportation.
And just so everybody knows heat.
Serbs are the United States of America as a navy officer and naval advisor and we haven't tipper had to that we love -- and that -- stuff you file an act.
c.'s CE OW and cat -- -- McAllen on Twitter if you want.
