Today Republican front runners Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum go head to head for the 54 delegates up for grabs in the state of Illinois but it's a little more complicated.
Than that imagine that Jeff Flock is at a polling station.
Outside of Chicago with the latest in Jeff what is that sticking point in that competition.
More complicated when it comes to voting in Illinois but a beautiful day I think if you're ever gonna have good turnout would be today but reports are that it's actually not very good turnout.
Here.
And I want to keep inside a polling station actually this is on the Gold Coast of Chicago and as you see.
Multiple different precincts of voting here and -- we poke our heads -- side.
-- you see what it looks like here.
As search.
Romney Santorum -- largely the two are squaring off the others not competing so much here I have to actually walk out if I start to talk about.
The candidates are gonna do that but -- tell you how it works here.
Actually -- detriment side.
The way it works is do you get to cast two ballots here when it comes to president's.
You vote in what's called a beauty contest that is to say you vote for whoever you want to.
That -- in real terms absolutely nothing.
Essentially you must vote for the delegates -- the candidate you want.
That's the only way they get to Tampa and the Republican Convention.
And have it mean anything here's the problem in this district which is the seventh congressional district as well as three others in Illinois.
Rick Santorum has not feel the full slate of delegates so if you -- -- -- you can vote form of the beauty contest but you can't vote for him.
For delegates now let's talk about Mitt Romney and take a look at what he looked like yesterday at Bradley University downstate normally that's where.
Santorum is expected to do better but Romney yesterday was right there had a big crowd -- -- altogether friendly crowd.
-- got a lot of tough questioning.
In fact he said well if you want free stuff at one point vote for the other guy not for me.
Mature -- at the other guy to be Rick Santorum or President Obama.
Santorum was trying to invoke the legend of Ronald Reagan.
In front of the statue of Ronald Reagan and Dixon Illinois.
Santorum urged.
His supporters to give -- a surprise victory because the polls right now -- double digit for Romney.
And if he gets that victory he said he would surely win the nomination.
Begins to really look hard in terms of the math on that in fact today even if Santorum were to pull off a huge upset and we and in the popular vote.
Chances are he would not wind up with the delegates because of this thing that I mentioned.
As your body that is to say.
He doesn't have a full slate of delegates so he may even win the popular vote and not -- the delegate count complicated stuff but that's democracy for you.
That's sure is that Jeff Flock thanks for sorting out that -- for us and don't forget -- -- -- in tune into our special coverage of the GOP primary in Illinois hosted by iron Neil Cavuto -- it.
I'd just before 8 PM at 758.
Eastern time on the dot we expect -- there.
Right here on.
