From February of last year Ford up 14%.
GM up over 1% -- just because they did so well last year was a tough comp.
The average US car is nearly eleven years old that along with rising gas prices could be driving sales.
Of smaller more fuel efficient cars Fox News dot -- automotive editor -- gas -- is here with more.
Eight.
In real.
Numbers and it looks like the American carmakers doing well they're back of their mind that they're absolutely back -- -- you know again you mentioned General Motors.
-- months last year that was due to incentives.
They're still on top now even with that one point 1% increase Ford with a big jump and not a whole lot of new new product this month either.
And the -- 40% -- -- last year I mean they were in the doldrums this time last year.
And now they're just storming back is there Mormon momentum behind this every down -- mean we really gonna recoup that all time highs and -- monthly auto sales we have no I mean they were pushing fifteen million this month for an average -- and this is going to be the first time we've had to fourteen million dollar average of months.
-- since 2008 so things are definitely back on track particularly -- cash for counselors and I can't speak to -- that is.
Yeah not incentives a wasted this is actual real believe any momentum here absolutely and gas price story are going.
Yeah I -- I mean what's the that because we you hear about near the economy -- the consumer doesn't have any money to spend gas prices are high.
But people are out buying cars what stay what are we missing why is that.
You know cars are a lot better now they last longer but -- -- do you need to replace them.
Not so much even for retail sales but these commercial outlets and when you need to do truck every government here have been -- -- something you can't avoid kind of business is -- -- -- up by the if people according to an average surveyor holding on to cards like 1011 years now so what are the most popular new cards to buy.
You know this month General Motors did really well -- the company General Motors and Ford in the compact car and compact SUV segment the cruise and equinox doing very well over -- was the focus and the escape which is about to be replaced but that -- selling really well for them Chrysler strongly.
Brands -- was always Grand Cherokee and the dodge grand caravan minivan doing very well over there.
So you know they're playing to their strengths.
The American brands but they've got a lot of competitive products across the boy it's going -- with the electric in the other hybrid models.
You know there's still flat -- Chevy -- sales were actually up this month from 600 something to thousands so that's not dead and -- yet.
But people are looking more at the more conventional more affordable fuel efficient cars Fiat 500 for instance which had a pretty rough year last year 37000 solve this is getting close to where they said it would be.
You know when they launched it last year.
So how are gas prices impacting what people are buying right now are we seeing an impact or does it -- date continue for a little while longer before people's.
Buying habits really change.
You know sales of trucks and that sort of thing didn't go to flat right now you know again he'll make a truck so fuel efficient there about right thank you -- so if you gotta -- -- -- go out by a truck.
But it was those mid size compact and compact SUV segments that really look the strongest right now.
