Tonight on the -- Americans want a real choice a true game changer not an echo of President Obama.

Look -- -- really being Rick Santorum.

-- her car.

-- stunning sweep of all three primary elections in Colorado Minnesota and Missouri comes just when the White House decided to pick a fight with religious voters.

Pundits -- -- far and wide -- the 2012 race has suddenly become all about social conservatism rather than fiscal conservatism.

But that view was probably shortsighted and here's why.

Granted this was a hard week for social conservatives.

Catholic voters are outraged by the president's decision to force religious hospitals.

To offer contraceptives and -- -- fat -- under obamacare.

Opponents of gay marriage are upset by efforts to overturn.

Proposition eleven California's 2008 referendum pro lifers receiving.

Over the aborted attempt by the Susan G.

Komen breast cancer foundation.

To pull funding from Planned Parenthood and then to return the money energized by this rapid fire assault on their -- social conservatives flocked to Santorum.

And a congressman Ron Paul both consistently pro life.

But not Newt Gingrich the planner -- Org Mitt Romney the flip flop -- -- Obama controls what happens next if he digs in on the Catholic issue like he dug in on the Keystone Pipeline issue.

He will energize his base and -- Republican base pouring fuel on the social conservatives burning anger.

But he'll probably reversed yeah.

Like he's done and several other contentious items in obamacare dropping contraception.

For Catholic employers Catholic institutions.

Could take some of the air out of the social conservative cause but not all of it.

Either way Rick Santorum lacks money and organization.

Compared to his rivals and he is still failing to qualify for ballots in several states.

Just like the government can't tell -- Catholic employer they must provide contraception.

The government can't dictate what happens in your bedroom.

The one -- game changer out there understands -- even a -- Santorum does not as he has admitted he doesn't in past interviews take a listen to this.

And I make as to what.

I refer to this as more of of a libertarian issue right to they have decided that we should be let people should be left alone be able to do whatever they wanna do government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulation so and that we shouldn't get involved in the bedroom we shouldn't get involved and cultural issues.

That is not how traditional conservatives view the world there is no such.

Society that I'm aware of where we had radical individualism and that it succeeds as -- As a culture it succeeded as a culture before Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt -- progressive news and on a senator read your history but I society and a culture that protects the rights of individuals.

Would never tolerate a government.

That forced individuals to violate their conscience.

Let's see if our first guest agrees I'm sure he does -- the archbishop -- Roman Catholic archbishop of Washington DC Donald cardinal world.

He's also the author of the book seek first the kingdom.

Remnants.

It's a pleasure to have you on the program welcome to freedom watch.

Thank you it's good -- -- you cargo world pretty clear the church's teaching on contraception.

And it's pretty clear what federal government is trying to force the church to do if push comes to shove and the government doesn't back down.

Will Catholic institutions and -- the head of one of the largest in the country.

And get engaged in Civil Disobedience -- they've basically tell the federal government to go take a hike.

Well where we are right now and that's why the bishops across the country myself included.

Are trying to help our people understand what's at issue.

If enough people realize.

What is actually at stake here that is the the assault on our religious liberty assault on our freedom.

Then I think people who speak up and we're -- we're going to find this situation changed what we're really dealing with here is not so much.

I contraceptive.

Or an -- patient or sterilization those things -- all accessible right now right what we're dealing with what we're -- -- is.

The -- that mandate.

That we pay for all of these and that.

Catholics or.

People of all religious convictions faith based entities all over the country.

Which simply paying for these things we've never had that in our history before.

What we need to be able to do is recognize the great good.

That all of these faith based entities hospitals schools Catholic Charities services.

Those that provide for the the poor -- -- All of these contribute to the good of our country right let's not.

That's not impose upon them in a way that they're going to have to -- doing well you know.

Your evidence the constitution cannot be clear the government cannot interfere with the free exercise of religion.

And what the government has done mrs.

Sebelius says she's Catholic.

She's acting as the S secretary of health and human services.

She says to you Iran and -- I'm going to take money from you on from the parishes over which you have jurisdiction.

If they don't buy the insurance policy that I want.

The taking of the money.

The coercion to affect your free will.

Is a direct and profound violation of the very first clause of the First Amendment to the constitution.

That's why are -- we are making.

Being such an effort to help people understand.

What is -- issue.

This isn't the question -- some particular surface that that people can get anyway.

What is at issue is for seeing.

The church into the position forcing faith based entities hospitals.

Charitable services our schools right into the position of either.

Violent your conscience.

Or.

And if you do well -- you you really given up your right or simply.

Not doing business in which case refine out of existence right -- -- and if the government finds the church.

If mrs.

Sebelius sends you a deal.

Will you pay -- Or -- you encourage those over whom you have lawful economical jurisdiction.

To engage in Civil Disobedience.

In deference to centuries of teaching and then deference to their properly formed consciences.

Well this is where this is where the first step before we ever get -- to that bridge the first step.

He is and I believe this is the most effective -- and this is where the church is at her best.

We need to teach we need to let everyone know what the issue is I believe the American people all all of all of us.

Are basically.

Say there -- interest it.

And we're.

We find fairness completely right and what we see something that is simply.

Wrong I think the voice of the American people will be so -- we're already hearing yes that bush is gonna be so loud that this is gonna be -- We're not going to have to get to some dramatic confrontation.

But the first and most important step and that's why we have those amendments.

See the ability of people here the ability of people to speak the ability of all of us to inform the American people.

This is what's at -- Romance Donald cardinal world to pleasure thank you for joining us here -- very welcome thank you.

Republican --
