-- there there's our FaceBook page are speaking of taxes can be a theme for the president tonight the state of the union and we're joined from DC by senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson Republican.
Of Texas.
Senator thank you very much for coming on rich -- mentioning moments ago that Warren Buffett's secretary.
Will be among the president's guess.
That's tonight's it brings up this whole Buffett rule in.
You know the -- whole idea that wealthy taxpayers shouldn't pay more than their their secretaries that's why she's going to be there.
What do you make of that why that the president will apparently take once again tonight.
But you know I heard the president talking about.
New ideas and we need a president then we'll have fresh new ideas and this is the same old thing it's more spending.
Taxes.
Trying to.
Have a divide in this country between.
People who are doing well and people who aren't and creating a friction I don't think that's news and I don't think it's for us.
This all comes in the midst of and we were just talking about the Republican side of -- a presidential campaign in an election year and the president's opponent.
And the some getting this wrong but I think the president's opponent tonight.
It's going to be you know it's going to be congress this year -- he's gonna come out try to paint this as a as a do nothing congress and the response to that would be -- because the president's approval ratings by the way although there you know not great that they're they're better than -- -- for congress yeah affect that no doubt about -- You know this is.
I don't think we should use the state of the union or eight political campaign.
Inauguration I mean this is -- time.
When he ought to be talking about what we can do together and make these talking to congress he ought to be saying look here's where.
We are and here's where I think we need to go.
I think the reason that.
There is a do nothing congress which I would agree -- it's because we have such stark differences in the approach.
We're in a crisis -- fifteen trillion dollars in debt.
We believe that we need to do the things that would cut spending get our debt war in order showed that we're gonna have a ten year plan to do that.
And how can we do that together.
-- entitlements have to be part of it is the president going to address entitlements.
I haven't heard.
That from the previews of the speech -- -- let me ask you the only way we're gonna get our house in order.
Let me ask you this senator then to get to this point this debate over whether it's -- do nothing congress and you mentioned that we should be talking about things we can do together.
Give me an example something especially on economics whether it's taxes or something else something that could legitimately get done.
This election year by both sides working together would be -- Well one thing in capital formations.
We could.
Raise the limits that would lower the regulatory burden on small businesses that want to raise capital.
Right now -- at -- five billion dollar limit at before they have to go big regulatory process the president has said.
And we agree in congress that we should raise that to fifty million.
We need to get capital and -- small business.
I'd like to see us continue to work on this Obama health care.
There have now been 4000.
Exemptions from the Health Care Reform bill that was passed why not take that as.
A view from America.
That they are too many flaws in this bill.
And let's at least go around the edges to stop the burgeoning increase in health care costs just in the anticipation.
Of the health care bill those -- thing.
Just give you kind of quick comment on this -- -- at the bottom of the screen while you were.
Speaking -- we just found out that another one of the deaths of mrs.
Obama in addition Warren Buffett's secretary is going to be on the late Steve Jobs -- So she'll be there as well may guess the ideas talk about innovation and that kind of thing out in Silicon Valley and elsewhere when -- make of that.
I think it's great I think it's wonderful to highlight people in the state of the union.
Four or.
Good reasons and and we all think Steve Jobs was just.
A miracle worker in the technology field he was the innovator the creator and we do want to keep.
That in America it has been the engine of our economy the creativity in the tech sector.
Let's -- over regulated.
And keep it from continuing to be the economic engine of America.
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson Republican of Texas always a pleasure thank you very much for coming up.
