Time for the state of the union again that long -- -- into new list.
Offered by the -- -- in new January to a joint session of congress.
And that got me thinking about last year's state of the union.
What -- the president promised and what the actually succeed at making happen it's time for report card the president's report card.
First things first one of Obama's big things last year was national unity.
His speech came in the wake of the assassination attempt on congresswoman -- Gifford in Arizona.
Obama pledged for Americans to come together in the wake of the tragedy.
New -- will only pass with support from Democrats.
And Republicans.
We -- move forward together or not at all for the challenges we face are bigger than party.
And bigger than politics.
But in the end the rhetoric just got worse.
Unfortunately.
Too many Republicans in congress don't seem to share that same sense of urgency.
Over the last few months they said no to most of these jobs -- Noted putting teachers and firefighters back to work.
-- put in construction workers back on the job.
And this week they actually said no to cutting taxes for middle class fare us.
Gifford by the way just announced that she will resign her congressional seat to continue her recovery.
Other initiatives at the -- promise to pursue that of fail to see the light of day check -- out replacing No Child Left Behind with a better education law -- tuition tax credit permanent.
Rewriting immigration laws eliminating tax subsidies to oil companies and reforming the tax system a big one.
Now much of -- -- got caught up in the debate over budget and spending.
Now the president's list of accomplishments is shorter if you look -- he got done medals were less ambitious.
A free trade deal with South Korea.
Killing and Obama -- reporting requirement for small business creating a web site to show taxpayers.
Where their tax dollars scout.
-- look it's a lot of little gold to create a website to help people understand how to tax dollars are used but it's not what I would call a stretch goal.
I would think the leader of the -- free world that is could do a little better than just creating a website.
Especially when that website does not reflect reality.
According to Scott -- of the Tax Foundation the website doesn't give the full story.
He says if you put into the calculator that you paid 181000 dollars in taxes.
It will show -- the money was spent all right but not how much of government services that you got.
And -- -- lower income family would have a small tax liability they would be getting ten times as much in government benefits.
That's reality.
There's another reality 2010 was a year of modest goals and -- its attainment for the president.
-- frankly there are a lot of initiatives here that I am glad the president didn't get done.
Barack Obama's idea tax reform for example probably doesn't match my down.
Here's what to expect from tomorrow's address not much it's an election year and you can bet there will be plenty of this.
