-- thing is dead did not if Republican Utah senator Mike Lee has his way he joins us right now -- -- -- -- -- Well I'm trying to figure out why the president would want to kill so many good jobs.
Jobs that are desperately needed an American -- to supply -- with the oil but we need.
Instead he's gonna require us to continue buying.
500 billion dollars a year worth of oil from outside the United States and I don't know why he would want the -- this project.
But I'm gonna continue to work with Republicans in congress.
To overturn his decision how -- you -- president and at least delay the part part of that process works on the -- it's -- a simple was even getting a veto proof majority.
That congress can't -- -- on this that -- is a State Department.
Matter of what is its.
Well in -- congress could pass legislation requiring the State Department to.
Permit the project if that were to happen it would be of course subject to a presidential Vito.
And then we have to consider a presidential veto override.
It's not entirely outside the realm of possibilities that that might happen at some point.
He in any event it would be difficult for Democrats to vote against this sort to vote against -- -- that circumstance because of all the jobs that are involved here.
Americans need jobs right now and we need the oil that this could bring us and the voters know that we've got an upcoming election.
And I think that election could be influenced by this horrible decision by the president.
Senator you know the president is blaming Republicans for this probably and we had been a bit Montana's democratic governors say.
On it isn't the president's fault he's disappointed this thing has delayed again he's a Democrat.
He blamed it on Nebraska is Republican governor for not getting -- paperwork in order in the Nebraska -- agree on exactly where this thing would go so I talked to Nebraska governor today.
He said the Montana governor has it wrong that even though Nebraska didn't have.
Where this pipeline would go and all the paperwork filled out.
Honda did this by the time it would get built and through Nebraska it would be years away so there was plenty of time to resolve that -- again I don't know senator.
Where the truth lies but it sounds like.
Both sides might have dropped the ball on this.
Well the truth lies in the fact that they've had three years to study this thing.
And it lies in the fact that the president ultimately has the authority it's his discretion he's the one who decided not to approve this at this.
Nobody should wanna be moved anal about it I mean -- probably be.
I did see the political heat on on both sides.
But it Nebraska has to do its part to agree to where this things have been I'm not seeing this as a Republican or Democrat.
Then the paperwork wasn't order -- -- it earlier today senator to go into a closing.
You're gonna get a -- you're gonna get the -- solid but you don't want your paperwork together.
So you don't you tax for the real -- -- text of the lawyer by the way that's a big -- you know detectable what are your broccoli executed.
But I mean so -- -- with the paperwork wasn't there.
So everything was you know red handed out.
And it it it.
Was just -- continues that stopped when he did.
Well look if that's the case then I will be thrilled because if that's the case we could just set up another closing to take the analogy one step further.
We can get that paperwork in order in him I don't know very short period of time that the.
When I look -- the covering this senate -- -- you can't.
Could these things to get it approved and -- on -- it it's almost like reading a Home Depot contract trust me I don't -- not in like don't know Bebo.
-- -- -- -- You -- has to be quite -- sign of the dollar line to -- -- forms Nebraska didn't have that.
Because there was an argument as -- -- that through the state this thing would run they had an alternative plan.
But it hadn't been finalized so.
What -- the -- else maybe the president seized on that for environmental reasons and and -- was -- I think there is some reason to believe that might happen but it was.
There is six hit -- about what happened so what happens now.
Well what happens now is that congress particularly the Republicans in congress are gonna continue to fight for American jobs they're gonna continue to fight for the oil that we need.
Oil which by the way will continue to have to be imported.
It's just -- -- of coming in through this pipeline will have to be shipped in.
Meanwhile the Canadian crude will be shipped to places like China another large scale carriers.
And so the environmental impacts of this in and of themselves.
And he's going to face repercussions as a result of this -- in congress and with the electorate come November -- senator very good seeing you -- thank you very much.
