-- well first to South Carolina where the primary now is only eight days away and joining us now the former governor of Arkansas 2008 Republican presidential candidate.
Mike Huckabee awful also author of the New York Times best seller are simple government host of Fox News.
Huckabee show governor good to have you -- this.
Thank you Lou great to be with you let me start by asking you the polls are showing Romney in the lead.
But a lot of eroding support apparently is that the sense you're getting -- there.
Well I think that there's still a lot of undecided voters one of the things were gonna do with our forum tomorrow in Charleston.
Is give undecided voters an opportunity to ask these questions to the candidates directly.
And it's gonna be uninteresting format and we've got some great questions that the undecided voters have brought.
And these candidates are gonna face -- they'll all get equal time.
-- people can get there as early as 10 o'clock when the doors are open at the so Tilly theater.
On the campus of college -- Charleston is going to be a great event it'll air tomorrow night in sunny not on the Fox News Channel.
And and governor here you have your thoughts on the the attacked by new Gingrich.
On Bain Capital our governor Romney.
On on private equity.
Well I I don't think it's a healthy thing for the party to get into cannibalizing itself.
And the candidates that will end up.
Having someone emerge.
Going against Obama we need to focus our attention.
Not on what we -- wrong with another Republican but what we think is -- with the basic Republican message vs the message and the administration.
-- Barack Obama this resulted in some some serious.
Downturns in the economy including here in South Carolina where I am tonight.
Nine point 9% unemployment.
That's what the focus needs to be -- what's wrong with other Republicans what's right with America and how we solve these problems when we replace Obama.
Do you not think though that.
Even perhaps maliciously.
Newt Gingrich is introduced in the an issue that does demand discussion within the Republican Party during this run up to the nomination and -- is.
The role of free enterprise and capitalism.
In setting the standard of living in this country the quality of life in this country.
And the important public policy choices and business practices that we all have to be aware of and understand the consequences -- Well I think it's a great opportunity and I hope Mitt Romney will rise to the occasion.
And sort of give America.
A little bit of a lesson in capitalism.
Look nobody wants to see predatory practices in which some people succeed in other people's fail for no particular reason other than -- but that's not what.
Private equity is about.
A great article in today's Wall Street Journal about the airline industry -- the fact that had it not been for Blackstone a private equity firm.
Rescuing delta out of bankruptcy the whole company would have gone belly up.
Well this country and the world would not have been well served.
Have we lost an entire airline and all those thousands and thousands of good delta employees.
Would have been out of work.
They're talking about how that private equity may save American Airlines and be that that the means by which that great company is able to stay in the air.
And continue to hire people.
And move people like you and me around the country and around the world.
That's what happens now here's the point.
Loop when people take great risk as investors do -- they might end up getting a great reward but they might lose their shirts.
And so if we're gonna blame them for every time to make a profit.
Let's also then recognized sometimes.
They lose money -- -- to make it.
Yeah I I I don't think you know certainly some mighty my job either are glorified private equity -- true to demonize it and I won't.
It's simply part of -- free enterprise capitalism and performs a valuable function.
Within our economy and our financial system.
What is interesting though is that this is to be it it represents and -- great opportunity not only for governor Romney.
But for every one of these Republican candidates.
The -- to be advocates for free enterprise for capitalism.
And somebody up there should be saying point blank.
Folks free enterprise capitalism.
Not only built our quality of life in this country.
But has contributed -- after the wealth generated in the world over the course of the last sixty years.
And quit apologizing for capitalism and instead.
You know college free markets free enterprise has -- a buzz word.
You know say it's straight up we're capitalists because it works it creates -- and curtains and sets the standard for the world.
Well to borrow a phrase from Barack Obama this could be a great teaching moment all -- that's what I hope it might become.
But I hope that we learn something more important than may be we've learned from the president about the economy in the main thing is.
Is that when the government takes money and tries to salvage of -- say a car company.
Our may be prop up some type of Green energy company likes a wonder -- it's taking money from taxpayers it's taking money from single mom since taking money from widowed.
Elderly people and it's investing in sometimes what's no more than a pig in a poke.
That's doctoral government but if a private investor wants to take his or her capital that he or she has earned and put it in a company.
And if it works and they make money good for them because -- they can put that money back into the economy if it fails.
As a taxpayer I'm not on the hook for it.
And that's the message that I would like to see -- or some of the other candidates are really drill -- on so that we understand the difference between private investment.
And government tax Payer funded investment.
All right and we look forward governor -- -- show tomorrow -- be sure to tune in.
For the South Carolina presidential forum hosted by Governor Huckabee that's against -- PM on the Fox News Channel.
And and governor to again.
You're talking about the the opening of -- auditorium tomorrow when is that.
While the doors open at 10 o'clock people are welcome to comments first come first served.
It will be at the so -- theater.
On the campus of College of Charleston a beautiful beautiful community.
Love this place and we look forward to seeing a lot of people congressman Tim Scott will be co hosting with us this is one of his town halls who will be -- able to be part of and now we hope folks will be with us you -- -- -- zero governor thanks for --
