In the next thirty minutes.

Now as 2011 does come to a close it was another big year for the tech world which would certainly be fair to say.

Also probably fair to say the biggest news of all named in the death of Steve Jobs now his death came -- a year which apple it's company.

Came out with a number of products in the iPhone four SCI and to also introduced iCloud.

But as we look forward to 2012.

Will apple be able to keep things going.

One off the many questions.

That we have for Walt Mossberg from DC yeah.

All things digital personal technology columnist at the Wall Street Journal has.

As always a great piece in the journal and I always encourage everybody to read it in the Paper but especially today is we're not gonna have a chance to.

Look back and every product here on TV 2011 look toward 2012 but the piece does that.

And it's great but job.

What what I'll start with I think is apple in the context of yet we came out those products we talked about but also competitors emerge so how will 2011.

He remembered another year of apple again -- the year that a a big competitor emerged for the future.

What -- personal Merry Christmas and new.

I I think I think both I think apple is.

Not just the biggest tech company -- -- but certainly the most influential tech company.

Has been for years.

They -- other people tend to follow.

Comings and they had a great a great year -- in terms.

Innovating in products this year.

From as you point out from -- iPad two.

Two -- -- to.

You know this Siri artificial intelligence system.

In the -- -- four arrests and a bunch of stuff on the Mac.

Having said that.

You know android.

This year the -- -- is from Google and all the devices that run run it.

Collectively.

Overtook apple in terms of numbers of users.

It's it's a little bit confusing because there is no android device that.

Comes anywhere close to the sales in popularity.

Of the iPad or the -- phone but collectively there are more users.

On -- -- android got better this year yeah we also saw Amazon which.

Is.

The only company other than apple with a really deep con -- ecosystem that's.

He unified an easy to use we saw them come out with a color tablet the Kindle fire.

Had has some flaws in it and so forth but I I think it will.

Because that only costs a 199 -- because it's Amazon.

It's very likely to be the first.

A -- iPad tablet to have any significant traction.

The thing -- -- -- going forward in the next year because it personally interest me and I'm shared interest you as well is.

Will 2012 be the year finally has been talked about the last couple of years where the TV business really gets turned upside.

We'll let you know -- At.

Television.

As a 2011 thing even though that too much happen because you could Begin to see the signs of what's gonna.

Start happening next year.

You know in 2000 level we had.

Things like the apple TV box in the roku box.

Finally Begin.

To get more a lot more traction they're not huge products but compared to previous years in 2011 -- began to take off.

Obviously Netflix put aside all the -- thoughtful about there.

Dumb corporate decisions people -- the -- can -- continued to increase their use of Netflix.

Stream Internet video and death you know Microsoft is building a much -- -- into the Xbox a bunch of things happened in 2011.

2012 I think is gonna be the beginning of the big reinvention of television.

And what everyone is focused on our these very persistent rumors which I believe.

Personally are more than rumors.

That apple is -- going to come out with a television.

A reinvented television its Internet connected.

And will.

Try to unify Q2 things really unify.

The traditional cable television like we're on right now and Internet video which I guess we're also on and also.

Completely.

Reform and simplify the user interface of television which -- you know can't get very confusing with lots of boxes connected to it.

So those are -- time's -- charm that you think is it fair to say for apple because that's the way people -- it is said they were there -- MP3 players before the iPod and they were tablet computers and before the iPad and now and there was Internet TV -- Well I don't know I -- -- -- -- -- I haven't reviewed it I'd -- briefed on it I don't know the details I do believe that I cannot believe I know they're working on it.

Will see and by the way there could be other companies -- doing similar things.

And it is a good analogy you know because.

There are televisions you can go to the store to -- by -- Sam -- Sony and there's.

Some Internet stuff on there but it's not done very well and I don't think many consumers.

We're buying televisions are doing it for that reason but if you get that.

Big Apple logo on and if they put some.

Of there.

Kind of magic dust on it -- the right things if could it could you people would even pay more for it I think which has been the pattern.

That so I think television is going to be a big story next year the cloud is gonna keep being a big story.

Forward G in particular LTE four G which Verizon is way ahead on.

Is going to be a big story next year and then windows we can't forget windows -- a new version of windows.

And have left we can't is still the dominant operating -- -- to chip.

But you know they're taking a big gamble and coming out -- the more tablet like version of windows and saying.

If it will be the -- -- you want on both your PC and your tablet and one -- -- into two different versions.

We'll see how that works out all right -- I don't think LC for the new -- -- have a great.

You too happy new year and then we'll talk to again certainly in 2012 only seen in 2012 fair enough Walt Mossberg.

It's good stuff both in the in the Paper and with the.
