2012 is heating up when Newt Gingrich taken a big lead in the polls but with this payroll tax cut expenses and several other tax -- coming up against the December deadline.
Our election -- skin in the way of well the real work that needs to be done joining us now democratic strategist -- -- B New York Post comments Michael Goodwin.
I just -- you first I mean this tax.
Extension thing is get back control here we got -- Republicans thrown in a pipeline in the deal.
We get Democrats trying to get a wealth surtax there that's not going anywhere so it is -- just up against the wall.
-- I think politics are gonna take over and will see what happens but I mean this is what's going on -- -- election you're trying to get this stuff done presents unity both parties are gonna use it to advantage to try to score some advantage right now I think the president's doing a better job of that.
More people -- -- is this his argument about the 99% 1%.
In taxing you know rich in raising that is is gonna work a lot better than so far what the Republicans have offered opposite at the -- points not 20000 jobs -- well yeah I mean would.
The claims just don't match up.
But nor does -- -- -- on the wealthy has -- I think people are just fed up with it.
You know you have the president saying no one is going home before our -- holidays until they're done and we all know he's going Hawaii for seven -- so what's that all about.
So -- -- where do we stand with this look -- I think the president does have the upper hand on the payroll tax because I do think it is popular even though it is actually bad for Social Security completely but that this is one where the politics are gonna trump good government and it is the good news is it's only for one year and I think that we will have an election in the next year we'll have I think hopefully better economics and less politics when it comes to these kinds of things.
On the pipeline I think the problem for the president's not -- -- a number of jobs as it is just jobs itself he is often so I stay up night that's the last thing I think about before I go to sleep.
In serious turndown away not only to create jobs to to help.
Make America more independent of foreign while other thing Canadians is Canadian -- about overseas oil which -- where many of the problems are so.
I think this is kind of a double loser for the president.
So we go to the polls now on some of the polls are really showing Newt Gingrich taking a lead here.
And way up there -- is this a threat to President Obama now.
I don't know that's a threat -- it's definitely a threat to Mitt Romney right now and and an -- the real question is.
-- -- Overcome.
You know what's been the baggage that's in the closet you can can cause is it's all gonna come now everything's come at the kitchen sinks coming have been there -- run a campaign where.
You you did in the -- one month before Iowa and Howard Dean we didn't make it we not made it through this -- he can.
That's going to make him much stronger.
Beating Romney makes me more sign that maybe the they need yet they -- he starts to become a problem this is not going to be a runaway election in.
On either side right now at least I think you'll be -- Really no one has baggage -- reading and have been there with new you know -- -- most recently his sister who is a lesbian has come out and said she will level of -- brother.
-- this comes Saturday and Sunday dinner -- I agree with that but I mean we we we know is baggage don't we.
What we do -- right now he still I think benefiting from the lack of enthusiasm for Romney but but I won one reason this year could be different in the sense of things will go on for a lot longer because a lot of the early states this -- -- proportional supposed to winner take all.
So Romney has the money he'll be able to stay in through January early February up into Super Tuesday and march almost no matter what.
Rock Gingrich and the other hand will not be able to right now he doesn't have the money doesn't have the organization.
He's gonna have to do very well very early or Romney I think is going to be in a better position a month from now.
I think people underestimate how much money because of the Internet and other things how much money is gonna move to the person who who.
Everybody figures out is the other guy I mean every week figure out for years Romney is going to be one of them.
If people decide if -- serves up Newt Gingrich the next day millions of dollars you know flow in and he's going to be -- -- Netanyahu with through the mind DO.
Part race in 1984 -- known dating myself here.
But Gary Hart took second everybody's been looking for somebody else all year long in once they found out it was hard I think UPS and eighteen or nineteen straight states before we.
Ever changes and then you don't think it's an issue that Gingrich doesn't have a huge presence in Iowa right now.
No I mean.
Because these polls -- people who say they're coming out in the caucus well -- 35%.
In The Who say they're going are going for new you don't need.
In organization the reason you need organization if you got twenty points there's somebody with 35 points.
And you can pull every single one of your people there on a cold night you -- get by and in surprise and then when that's happened and it could happen.
But right now -- a beneficiary of a lot of momentum.
Most gotten recent Gallup poll has Gingrich at 37% Romney at 22.
I mean still not blow away numbers right are you worried there might be a third kick it -- -- secret candidate that comes into this race don't I think I think that -- Happen until we see how about how both of them do in these early states I think there.
But again because of the proportional.
Results this time something like pre Tuesday only 345.
Delegates will be selected.
Before.
March 6 I believe it is so there's a long slow slog here that -- money's going to be important organizations going to be important.
And if neither one of them look very good at the end of that then I think there is still time for a high profile candidate who would have to raise a lot of money there ballot issues in some states.
But this year could be different in a lot of ways to either of you worry about Donald Trump.
Yeah I would defy or the other guys I mean I think that there -- he's got a lot of support out there and I think and there's a reason these guys -- keep going to see him.
You know he's got some juice and he's got a lot of people who follow on I think you -- there -- folks that you know question whether he's really gonna get in or knives.
Or have an impact when he does the does but it I wouldn't doubt his music has haven't well -- got anyone think it's interesting is that Rick Perry today said he would not participate right in the -- debate in in -- news active and later this month so I think there right now just Gingrich and one or two others who are only -- -- Santorum and I think Bachmann has not said yet what she will do and all the others have said no so.
I think they are.
Properly staying away from trump because he might run -- also he -- turning into a circus he may have already endorsed Gingrich privately there's all kinds of things possibilities I think they're wise to stay away.
-- Sanchez says that's for sure keeps us -- busy Zhao Michael thank you vote.
