Mike Emanuel good morning measurement a -- Good morning sir are you -- Mario outstanding after Thanksgiving to start with respect you happy Thanksgiving you do your viewers your -- course.
-- com why did this sort committee failed.
Well essentially a lot of people think it was set up to failure -- six Republicans six Democrats are very polarized environment.
And not necessarily six Republicans six Democrats you know who -- the most likely to compromise and so.
He needed a majority and you know one Republican was not gonna come over and -- all the Democrats or one Democrat was not gonna -- -- doing all the Republicans and so.
Republicans are saying you know we didn't want to agree to a trillion dollar tax hike which is what the Democrats insisted on -- Democrats are saying well you know Republicans are being -- reasonable we're just trying to look out for.
The richest Americans and extend the bush tax cuts permanently and so there you have kind of the lay out -- part gridlock in Washington these days.
A portion of last year of course -- The committee was called us those super -- demand over the call.
We called it super committee.
The B lawmakers called it that -- joint select committee.
Or care what what was that what while they would.
-- what bottles -- goal -- -- trying to do.
The idea was finding one point two trillion dollars in savings.
Over the next ten years.
-- they had a gun to their head.
Because with failure.
Automatic cuts are due to come in to have to defense.
Have to domestic spending and so the feeling was the defense cuts would threaten the Republicans and keep them out the negotiating table.
The domestic spending cuts would threaten Democrats and keep them at the negotiating table.
Everybody seems to agree that nobody want these automatic cuts could they essentially take a hatchet to the defense budget into the domestic budget.
But over the next year.
There'll be continuing pressure on the now the full congress to see if they can come up with some other debt plan.
To avoid these automatic cuts from kicking in January 2013.
Onslaught.
Mitt Romney when a candidate you like ten -- our optics.
Are.
-- -- are.
I'll I sought him what's the candidate.
On the run in his sudden to present.
Just Abington responsible -- -- baldness is up.
Now that a fair criticism work.
In Washington's gonna be the blame game men and so you know you've got Boehner saying that he did all that he could do.
Harry Reid says all the Republicans never showed any courage.
And now there's going to be plenty of blame towards the president with some Republicans.
On the campaign trail and also here in Washington saying.
Well the president never showed any leadership he kept the from the super committee if he had said that the Democrats on the panel I wanna deal get a deal that they would've gotten a deal.
I'd -- it -- -- requests -- very -- my question is dead.
Is is that legitimate criticism from Romney did depressed and abdicated its responsibility and those.
Well I think considering weren't an election cycle to be totally fair I think you have to say that if the president has stepped in.
And negotiations failed.
Then he would have gotten blame for meddling in congressional negotiate.
You know and I think because it failed now they're saying he should've stepped in and so I don't I think whoever the -- United States is not situations and a no win situation.
But he loses some.
-- now that we felt you know there's part probably plenty of blame to go around.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Correspondent for fox consult -- what now they have -- they have additional very just -- to the council -- security and Medicare and to those like it can't that it.
You know.
I understand it -- a wide range of domestic programs and so it it sounds like it's gonna be brutal I mean it sounds like you know 600 billion dollars that a lot of Americans are going to.
-- -- And you know the White House folks it.
Basically set off camera last night they realize that nobody want these cuts to go into effect -- but the president says you know right after the failure that.
Well we're not gonna give congress and -- offering up to get out of these cuts and so.
What they're gonna try to do is keep -- at the table but of course.
Were obviously heading into an election year and so it's not going to get any easier to get these done and so.
There'll be some in congress who tried to say let's -- the cuts.
Before January 2013.
But the president that he would veto anything that tries to undo those cuts unless.
Congress comes forward with an alternate plan to try to find the savings somewhere else.
We'll -- a -- that is going to.
Well -- it -- because there is some bipartisan push.
We heard Joseph -- from the Democrat from West Virginia we heard Lindsay Graham a Republican from South Carolina saying mister president.
Embrace your own deficit commission Simpson Bowles.
That called for four trillion dollars and savings and so.
It makes you wonder if the president had embraced his own deficit commission.
Led by Alan Simpson the former Republican senator and Erskine Bowles.
Former Clinton chief of staff.
If you embrace their plan would we be done with this problem that you know at least.
Right now.
So they're going to be pressure on on the White House to maybe embrace that and call on congressional leadership to to essentially call these.
Call that plant up for a vote so we'll see -- that goes anywhere.
Most of all like may -- thank trying to figure out -- right here while there.
Amend their blood John Kerry said the Republican vol budge on rise in taxes and others say there problem Republicans have been a lot of -- thing.
Because they think.
Although the of the present alternately take some blame and that offend other GOP can take reject the senate and and the presence in.
And these polls indicate that people are.
-- -- bowl parties so.
Right I don't think this panel was really selective with compromise in mind I mean you've got Patty Murray who is the co chair that of this panel.
And hurt other job is to lead the democratic senatorial campaign committee to make sure the Democrats keep the majority in the United States senate to be fair.
Rolled out an agenda.
Yet and yet just canceling the Republican co chair is part of the house Republican leadership he's yeah.
Cliburn -- there are connected to Nancy close in the -- democratically.
And so I want.
My -- -- yes sir.
While alone began after Thanksgiving thanks for daughters plan all astonishing.
Thank you sir and thank you for having me and and happy Thanksgiving everybody and what do against him.
Coming up on afford.
