2011.

Has been the year of cyber crime.

And now FaceBook has been put on the list of -- of the high profile companies that these hackers have gone after along with this -- companies.

And in essence in FaceBook situation what happened was.

Hackers were attacking using another site.

To attack a hole in Facebook's website.

But in order for that to happen they had to convince FaceBook users to click on something -- example hey.

Can you believe came did this and of course everybody clicks on it and when that happens it sends a command to that FaceBook users page and says.

Post these really violent images -- disturbing images of pornographic images and the user doesn't even know.

But if they're doing that -- also true that that it that it sends a virus -- be your own computer your PC that that conceal information for -- is does it do that as well.

What these types of things.

Can do that it's cool -- with what they call a drive by download.

So what you get is a virus you think something bad just happening your FaceBook and it could also be and I don't think it happened in this case but it can also be.

Where white hat hackers we go into a website and we attack it like the bad guys but -- the good guys and we look tell a company here's what you do here's a whole as we found.

Fix it will help you fix it there's many companies out there that are doing those services -- you don't have to be an expert.

As a small business in order to do it yourself that's number one -- and so.

-- so.

It's couple -- back up after it.

You do this security assessment essentially you're trying to find the holes in your own operations.

And you say what if you -- -- new featured in your site it's critical that you do the back up -- the test again.

Right sometimes what you find is that -- attic -- fancy new feature and it actually breaks it perfectly secure our site majority had.

So you have to think security day in and day out not I putting the money now I'm safe forever it's gotta be part of the way you do business.

Just like you think about marketing or PR securing some some physical.

And the physical side.

Like that -- you say examine the site for -- we talked about that what about educating engineers.

That's a great great point and what you have to do is if -- outsourcing.

Make sure the company you outsourced to.

Uses what they cause secure coding and if you're doing it yourself which -- engineers through secure coding training so when they're writing the bits and pieces the first time.

They write a better.

And then finally as a customer at four -- customers.

Customers who companies that they trust that they feel like all you care about me you care about right information.

They use what I -- teachable moments throughout your site.

Find the places on your site where you can -- idea customer paid by the way did you know something -- happened be careful learn how to navigate security.

Provide that information -- locations for them to learn more and -- touched you more because that's what's impacting.

When security hits are accurate hits your bottom line customer is gonna be -- need to maintain that right.
