Look out we're talking tablet wars this week and look at that Amazon Kindle fire.
And Barnes & Noble note tablets get a lot of talk it this week in one of the main talkers about that -- -- when we listen to all things digital now with Walt Mossberg personal technology column that Wall Street Journal has reviewed both great to see you Waltz.
What should we know about the fire and the new -- Well.
I -- the main thing you should know is that there are much less expensive than the iPad.
You know the -- it to in my opinion remains the class of the field.
And you should CNN in the market share nobody else has really been able to get any traction.
These guys are going in a different direction both on price and on functionality and design.
I guess the most interest in one of these two.
It is the fire the Kindle fire because.
Barnes & Noble are ready had a color tablet.
This is Amazon's first collar.
LCV.
You know multi function.
Member of its Kindle family and it cost 199.
Dollars.
-- it's it it's so good to see you as always though but -- and thank hours reading a review and thank him.
It's okay it sounds the fire sounds just OK but the shortcomings.
Our long.
Would you agree with that high yeah I mean their long if you want -- if you think of it as a full featured.
Tablet the way that the iPad and some -- -- integrated other and -- competitors are but.
This is a this is men and and a -- making excuses for Amazon but I mean they set out to make.
Mostly what I would call content and.
First tablet or a way to get your Amazon content and use the Amazon content ecosystem and the really are only two companies.
With a really -- Deep content ecosystem Amazon and apple.
And they built this is a front end I ended that.
Yes it it does running android deep deep under the covers.
Does have some maps does have a rudimentary email client it does have a web browser but it's not meant.
You know the -- -- an iPad can really replace.
A fair amount of the stuff you do on your laptop and printing we talked about this that the Kindle fire is not that.
But if your -- -- in books in color.
In in magazines and color newspapers in.
And then especially in a TV shows and movies and music which.
We're not something you did on old fashioned Kindle chair this brings all that -- war plus a smattering of that.
So I'll tell -- his interest in I was talking up to Santa Claus about it.
And he was saying that the price he loves the price you know you -- 500 bucks for an iPad and -- -- -- -- children's books in the whole thing is huge.
Which would said to which do you think senate will be more interest it and a fire or.
-- -- Well I'm -- you know for kids.
Actually I would say the nook tablet which is the second generation.
Of the color no -- and which cost fifty bucks more cost to 49.
-- does a much better job with kids books they've really want to noble has really invested.
And making the kids' books interactive.
You can record let's say you're a parent who's out of town a lot.
Or maybe in the military or something.
You can actually record yourself reading the book your child which probably will delight the child child can read read the book to herself.
And that can be recorded -- animations.
I'm -- and Amazon on the Kindle fire really the only thing they do.
With kids books is kind of make -- -- bigger.
Which is -- that big -- deal.
So on kids' books I give.
Barnes & Noble the edge also they have twice the memory.
For storage that that the Kindle fire has a couple of other things but.
They don't unlike Amazon and unlike apple they.
There ecosystem is primarily books and magazines they do not have their own store for.
Streaming or buying.
Videos or music and so they don't have the complete package they they've tried to fill in on their device with.
Net flicks and pandora apps and but those all require separate sign ins separate payments and in and and in.
Also those are also available on the iPad and the Kindle fire so there's nothing particularly special about having them on there.
Well I adore you for myriad reasons but your insight into -- -- that specific thing about the kids' books is so valuable and that's one of one of the reasons outlook happening here thank you will love the cat in the hat day independent candidates I initiate I'm a huge fan of hope -- hope.
Thanks well cat in the hat and affection patiently for the grant system Christmas is not always.
Is -- -- -- thank you bought.
