What we have over sixty Democrats in the house it's and counting every single day.
That are leading the way to say we'll be true statesmen and women to get something done and to go big so that's over sixty members of Democrats in the house and we have.
Some a hundred total in the house Democrats and Republicans and also the senate has up forty -- members.
Both Democrats Republicans are single big so we're trying to lead the way and two support.
So for -- to say go big four trillion plus.
Now -- -- was when we hear about going big what I think gov is is significant tax reform that would lower tax rates.
Broaden the base get rid of a lot of the special deals -- -- exactly what Simpson Bowles was talking about the president's own commission is that what you're looking at as well.
And that's exactly what the gang of six recommended data and and what we are supporting in principle.
And if you do what you say I mean you eliminate deductions you eliminate exclusions and you -- back only the ones that.
We know we're going to be -- like -- -- interest deduction charitable -- under whatever.
Reform measure might be.
You can generate somewhere in the range of about a trillion dollars a year.
And when you add the economic growth that we will -- from true and meaningful tax reform moment corporates.
David we have the opportunity to truly go even bigger than that four trillion that he and mode.
Well congressman if you in -- senator agree ended -- if enough other Democrats -- Republicans agree can you override.
Any objections that the White House might have against this idea.
I don't think the White House -- objective we go to.
Four trillion -- think that the American people has obviously they already have congressman they already have the -- the president himself.
Has already rejected proposals to lower tax rates and broaden the base.
Well I think if we get so many members of congress who can support this then now the White House -- having other choice but supported.
So you say yes if if enough Democrats -- -- -- get together they can overwhelm the president's objections.
That is that is our objective that's what we'll have a press conference tomorrow and have thus some 150 plus members of congress.
Supporting them the program that the gang of six Erskine Bowles report had given out.
To be able to say let's go big -- the world is watching and it's time for us to turn our economy around all the way we're gonna be that we can't go enough money at it we're gonna have to have the savings that's necessary.
And do something that's long term.
Not short term.
All right well senator this is gonna be a very interesting press coverage because this could be a stand.
By Democrats and Republicans to overwhelm the president's objections that's news.
Well what both -- And than what the gang of six did what demand that you Rivlin most of check our political -- at the bill or David and come in the -- sit down and negotiate for what's in the best interest of our country and what's in the best interest of our children and grandchildren look if if we don't solve this issue within this window of opportunity that we have right now.
Then what we're doing to our children -- grandchildren just on file the moment we're going to be the first generation of Americans.
Believe this country in worse shape than the country which we inherited.
-- and are committed to make sure that we do everything possible that to -- that doesn't happen on our watch.
And you know the president unfortunately.
Is not provided the kind of leadership that we need on this issue.
I wish you were here tonight working very closely with the super committee which we -- we're in full support.
And maybe between now and the time -- you for their report we'll see some kind of leadership -- You guys are setting up by a very -- -- confrontation and bipartisan measure.
That is going to be presented the president it's going to be very interesting to see what he does -- that congressman short.
