The big banks one in charge of five dollar monthly for your debit card -- that now you know what happened next.
Because you're the ones who did that you -- -- -- tweeted and this Saturday 40000 of these switch from big banks credit unions.
And they backed down the fee is gone is this the age of the empowered consumer.
Joining me now -- Brockovich consumer advocate and the author of the new -- you really -- to check this out it's called hot water.
-- and welcome to the show thanks for coming on we appreciated.
Thank you invited me here -- enjoy this second.
Partners to -- more certain of our spies like.
Well I want to talk about this idea of consumers because.
-- it's like no matter where you look over the last several years people have been getting together -- having their voices heard.
Started with the Tea Party we've seen Occupy Wall Street and now this banking the simple me right you'd think nobody would say anything.
Consumers -- -- they complained every where it's something going on here what does this tell you.
What -- -- a lot of.
And is something and I've been seeing going on for twenty years and that's just the power of the consumer's voice and I think that we.
Equate that was something that's negative then it's this side verses that side and I don't see that that's what's going on all.
You know there's a message that they want to convey.
And 21 years into this I -- communities and it isn't -- -- We hate government we don't want government but it's about government has a problem and it's not working right it isn't about we won a lawsuit.
We're in favor of a lawsuit.
The lawsuits are an arm of it but what -- is about is communities and companies communities in business you we go hand in hand.
We depend on each other and I think that they need to be hurt at that level so.
It is the community is the consumer.
And companies corporations industry business C.
We go hand in hand and we make the wheels turn well we're not that -- -- right we are two thirds of the economy is -- you have to have consumers spending.
To have an economy in this country you have to have -- and when I when I look at what's been going on for the last few years.
I got incredible complaints numbers of complaints from consumers taxpayers.
-- this whole bail out things start and they didn't like the fact the banks got bailed out.
They didn't like the fact the bankers and got bonuses almost immediately after we gave them taxpayer dollars.
And that seem to start the ball rolling alright -- and -- -- one protests after another you know.
It you can look at.
Occupy Wall Street -- you have actually been down in this I have talked to those folks.
What was your reaction to them would you think -- that I appreciate the message I hear them I understand I think -- and I and everybody around feels the same frustration what I worry about it when I hope that they get is that there needs to be a united message.
There needs to be spokes people out there that they trust that can convey the message otherwise it gets convoluted.
It gets lost if you're standing up and down their -- -- about a thousand things and you got one issue you want to convey -- it will get lost so I hope that they can get more organized but there are no different from the Tea Party or any other situation.
Where it is about -- consumer.
That has an issue that feels they aren't being heard.
And they will take up the protest and -- about how you get you nine and well and how you get the united now it's really interesting because there's any more ways to do it.
Your social media there's Twitter I am -- here for incredible.
All kinds of different way and I think different people plug in different way some people wanna talk on -- some people want to talk on Twitter.
Is this -- -- be the galvanizing.
Force you think for an extended consumer movement where people have their voices heard.
And just like Bank of America backing down on these fees.
-- suddenly we're a player.
I think -- I think that we always have been and I don't know that.
The whole idea that one side or the other is an open and listening to -- but this is the way I see it.
Whether you're in business or consumer -- -- government hurt consumer whether you're Republican or Democrat where they're rich -- whether -- -- and -- here.
-- -- to -- C we're all still citizens.
Of this country absolutely and the systems out of saint and I think that it will take us collectively.
To express that and companies.
And our government in a wait to hear so that we can convene together again.
As what's best for all of us and that is a place where we live.
We wanna get environment we want clean water we want fair rights and so I think it's all coming back together again where we otherwise -- -- gotten complacent.
Or a little bit lost.
Looks a little bit about your book is this is not number one is number two rate similar to us actually number three the first one though was -- was nonfiction.

Hot waters an option for television series now yeah and it risen and there's kids got it can you say -- -- that yet.
I don't expect I have some profits there if you we have Hollywood is undergoing an -- -- like what happened.
But I have my fingers crossed out why aren't assuming that they are why fiction you know why and -- -- this is somebody earlier I would've never thought that the film.
ARAMARK which would account -- Julia Roberts and navy as a young person -- gushed I -- -- -- -- -- I -- aspired to be Julia Roberts and when -- and that -- I would have gone.
Only -- us.
Maybe she's taller than me movies she's prettier than me maybe she's thinner than the mission is -- better education me therefore I can't beat her in becomes a self defeating moment.
But -- fiction.
AJ Paladino who I have is somebody who exists in all of us.
And again this is your and character she is -- -- main character and it gives -- -- imagination.
Without meeting that person.
That's not in -- I can be you and and I really believe that.
And that's it Holiday -- at some point you know aspired to be it's so much for the deal are you -- doing the books and it is this something that you lock yourself away your house and right for hours on.
Well I do definitely spend a lot of time with that and I don't have to lock myself away because what.
AJ faces on a day to day basis is real and it comes to me on a day to day basis and the inspiration comes from.
That one -- -- that communities might work that gave me an opportunity to do the book.
