-- -- Is the United States on the verge of war -- Iran.

The prospect is not as far fetched as you might think.

Retired army colonel Douglas Macgregor a freedom watch regular joins us now with his view -- colonel welcome back to freedom watch.

-- judge colonel in who's best interest anywhere on the planet would it be -- the United States were to engage in war with Iran.

Ultimately -- one judge no one would benefit.

What why -- why is there any perception.

That Israel would benefit if the United States struck first saving Israel from having -- do sell or flip side of this.

That the United States would engage in a war if Israel strikes first.

Well look first of all judge lets keep something in mind there is no appetite and there is no interest in the United States government.

In any part of the government for any reason to waged direct war on Iraq.

So it's not planned it is not going to happen.

I think it's important for people understand that.

As far as Israel benefiting it's hard to imagine that the strike by us -- Israel was somehow -- another.

Benefit israelis' security in fact I'm afraid that a strike -- hereof audits so called nuclear facilities would probably accelerate.

The arrival in the Iran -- of nuclear warheads that could then be placed on missiles that shot.

And Iran or other countries -- I don't see any positive development there.

What what is the position of the Israeli government or even the Israeli electorate.

-- whether it is appropriate for Israel to do to Iran's nuclear capability what it once did to Saddam Hussein's nuclear capability.

And now about thirty years ago.

We'll I can't speak for the Israeli electorate I think it's important for people in the United States to understand that there's quite a diversity of opinion on this subject inside Israel.

But as far as -- look good Government of Israel is concerned I'm sure that they probably think in those terms.

But I don't think they're foolish I don't think -- -- bark upon you know such your course of action.

I -- you know judge there is nothing to be gained from this because China and Russia in particular.

Have good relations with your audience and this would create the opportunity for them to provide to Iran.

What it hasn't been able to build for itself and that would make matters far far worse in the region.

Not just for Israel but also for the Sunni Arab states in the peninsula.

You know what I'm worried about -- word the President Obama on a desperate effort to get reelected might try and do something over there in an effort to unite the country behind him.

Since we usually do unite against the president 11 involved in war whether it's a just war or not is might feel realistic colonel.

Though are first of -- -- I agree with you it would be pretty desperate and to be frank with you given the Republican field right now I'm not sure that he needs to start -- -- to get reelected.

I think unfortunately the Republican front is not a strong one -- and the assumption that some are another the economy.

Is going to elect Republican candidate is dangerous and ill conceived conventional wisdom.

Colonel McGregor always speaking your mind and you're always welcome here thanks for joining us thanks judge.
