Breaking news the poverty problem in America is getting much worse higher body of David -- thank you for joining us 46.
Million people are now living below the official poverty line this is the most since we started keeping records 52 years ago.
And the poverty rate is at its highest since 1983 what makes this number.
Even more incredible folks is that it comes at a time.
When governments spend -- for ending poverty is at an all time are not only -- government poverty programs not working.
Some believe they may actually be making things worse after trillions spent on -- so called war on -- -- -- our first guest says it's the free market things like Wal-Mart that it actually done more -- and -- -- in America than any government program ever did or ever will.
Let's bring in former chief operating officer.
Microsoft a company that has done quite well thank you Bob.
Herbal joins us now so Bob I've mentioned Wal-Mart because of course a lot of the president's friends consider Wal-Mart to be an evil corporation and -- the right put much more faith in the government than they do when Wal-Mart but what.
Has done more to create jobs and to alleviate -- in the country Wal-Mart or the government.
What they -- one thing we know.
Oh doesn't work it is throwing large amounts of money against government supported does so called training programs up.
Time after time we've proven that you just don't get the results.
The second thing is we need qualified.
One of the things we need to do in that regard is make sure that our education system is up to snuff.
And when you see 40% of high school graduates being competent and math.
Clearly that doesn't work what we need -- great teachers.
We need to blocks that blocked the notion of no performance appraisals and K through twelve public schools.
Now in regard to Wal-Mart and -- don't -- -- has started before go further -- schools the same argument used by the people who support government spending.
On on welfare programs in general is the argument used it education that is more money will solve the problem what would you say to that.
Well I headed up a a committee here in Washington DC on that very subject than what I found was surprisingly.
Forty to 50% of all education dollars K through twelve public.
Go against administration.
Had -- money is not the issue there swimming in money.
What's really the issue are great teachers we've proven over and over again you get a great teacher in front of students marvelous things happen.
Now here's here's the problem Bob which is that every time we come out with stats like this.
That the party rate has increased.
People don't look at what hasn't worked they come up with the same answers about right to do.
And that is usually spending money -- we're just target about education it's also the same a lot of welfare programs.
How do you break that mentality.
Well one the other elements besides education David.
Is that the creation of jobs themselves and no Wal-Mart has been blessed because in these tough economic times.
Their business has been quite healthy because they offer the consumer a reasonable price.
But how do you create jobs if you asked industry today there are basically two things that need to happen.
One the tax structure needs to be reasonable and it's not currently compared to alternative nations around the world.
And the second thing is you need to start peeling back regulation not laying more regulation on corporations.
For example no one has really figured out yet the implications of obamacare.
That's a sad state of affairs how can you hire people who knows you may be signing up for their lifetime health care.
One thing that we did hear from the president's job speech last week was.
Talk and concern from his part about our corporate tax rate being too high mean it is I believe it's -- second highest in the world they're Doug do seem to be.
Some moves to bring that corporate -- down if you get rid of some of the deductions is -- that they will it happen.
Oh it is a good thing we've only been talking about it now for a decade.
You know large multinational.
Companies have restructured.
Their entire financial.
Around the countries that are friendly in regard to taxes vs those that are unfriendly and were second highest on the unfriendly list you are right.
Right good to see a Bob as always a man who knows how to create jobs from the ground up Bob her bald from Microsoft good to see about like a little.
