Well good news football fans Washington's latest political squabble won't ruin next week's NFL -- in -- opener.

Season -- what it meant that thing.

The great date -- of 2011 began with President Obama and speaker Boehner butting heads over what night Obama would present is jobs plans to congress.

Obama said Wednesday Boehner said Thursday Thursday one.

That is the night of the Packers saints game but -- White House spokesman -- that the commander in chief will be done before kick -- thank goodness I was so worried about that.

Our Thursday talkers are here Michael Goodwin Pulitzer prizewinning columnist the New York Post.

And -- -- a top news radio team a what did you make of this debate.

I think it's totally ridiculous I think that look yeah I your feelings -- hot -- and there are so many more important issues to be talking about and whether He was invited by the speaker whether He wasn't invited by the speaker I mean give me a break time to do something important like really talk about the jobs issues.

But we'd like avoiding that I think right Michael Palin look I actually think.

I'm anyways this does serve the president well this this fight over because it that that is his entire argument it's not about the policies He has or about.

The jobs he's created it's about that the Republicans are bad people and even this is now being their victims of John Boehner because they wouldn't let them have the house on the night that they wanted -- I mean this is this is the level and I I believe the president is primarily responsible for this -- because.

He's the one who's got to lead the country to call on John Boehner to lead the country has it backward.

Wait a minute when you call -- -- to lead by saying I'd like to give a speech on Tuesday he's in trouble.

So He did take a leadership position and then He gets jumped four honestly he's probably so happy that the press is dealing with this fight.

Rather than the starting to listen to the Republican lines about taking amount about the jobs -- I'm sure the White House as a parent I get a Nevada came -- a lot of topics here to cover and I and what do you what both of you have to say about -- I -- get to some polls because Rick Perry has come out of nowhere He wasn't -- candidate only a few weeks ago now He is leading the pack when it comes to the Republicans.

Michael -- do you first what do you make -- this the quite a pact -- we can show those numbers period 24%.

Meaning eighteen what happened.

Well look I I mean I believed all along -- -- -- but it wasn't alone in this -- Mitt Romney was a very weak front runner.

He had He had the sort of nominal support -- and your acceptance and agreement and some of that was name recognition from before I don't agree.

And Robert is a respectable guy I don't mean to say he's you know chopped liver but He -- a real candidate but I think that the once someone got in who could really run -- hard campaign against him He faded very quickly -- there's a long way to go but.

I think for now Kerry deserves the lead -- of.

-- jump in here.

-- just let me say Ron Paul Ron Paul we mentioned we're having conversation about Republican candidates we mentioned Ron Paul everybody stopped sending me -- -- -- -- -- -- Or what -- -- -- is essentially the same thing that look running was a weekend what happened with Perry is He got the Republican establishment behind him.

And they're all there.

Most of them except for a sort of the eleven George Bush -- -- not I'm not sure that's right coming I think I think all of establishment supporting Perry heated guide to Tea Party and -- they're it's the renegade don't see how much I I'm not so sure about that I talked to a lot of people who are mainline establishment Republicans.

Who have some we'll put their support there that they were contacted weeks before -- made that announcement to find out about their fundraising capacity.

And these are not Tea Party people they're not even social conservatives they're pretty much what we would call on the olden days rocket well already well He does have that kind of He seems like a leader and if you just physically watch him.

He's got -- about it but I wanna bring up something -- gates fired up you've been little sedate so far.

And this is a story that at major network put out they said.

They said driven things that you find in Texas today and things it will become law across the country if Perry becomes president among them legalize hunting from helicopter.

-- -- Abortion obstacles.

85 mile per hour speed limit.

Government issued photo ID required to vote and then hand and fast -- in the state capital.

Now this is the -- coverage that drives me right over the -- Michael Goodwin because.

It it's just not logical on the.

It's like saying Jeremiah Wright will be the national pastor of Barack Obama become president.

Slightly unfair right so a guy and I think that Texas for example the 85 my -- speed and you've ever driven in Texas that's not fast than half could think about.

There what they're shooting from the air are wild pigs which are doing enormous crop damage so I think it's sort of generalize and any state law.

It really is unfair but that's typical what.

Two things I agree with that that and and secondly these RE does not He can't make the laws like you can He asked we discovered with President Obama and even president but our.

Bush there is a congress -- you can't just say this is going to be a lot and secondly the president.

-- and said the governor of Texas is it buy it by legislative lot is a lot weaker actually.

Then a lot of other governors so even necessarily make these -- -- there well and to that point and I want both of you answer this.

What would America be like rhetoric parent I mean where -- house -- What would be terrible because I don't think that his interest.

Are in a lot of the people who have less than I don't think he's that interested in leveling the playing field.

In terms of the tax situation -- -- I believe.

That America would be a lot stronger if there was less division between people who run corporations and people working corporations are used to be in only eight to one.

Pay differential it's a lot greater now.

Well listen Allan likes to level the playing field Barack Obama is doing that everybody has a let -- everybody has less.

I think that's gone up up up up after attracting around the world so we're shrinking.

And so if this is if this is the idea of a good government we're really.

All well and it's I think there's no getting away from this recession.

That you know a lot of people say were not in another recession.

I got to tell you look at the numbers I'm looking at it's pretty frightening and that's what the next president is gonna have to do.

I think we have to leave it there.

Great job guys like having -- together and that was definitely the eighteen their Michael -- --
