We'll take it Diane thank you very much President Obama is kicking off his ten day vacation in Martha's Vineyard He is facing a lot of criticism for the trip in the wake of the market -- -- and concerns about the struggling economy.

The White House says the president won't be relaxing the whole time He will be working they saying that this economic stop and a new policy that he'll be unveiling in September.

And to avoid more political heat the president decided to skip a pair of fund raises on the island held by -- Wasserman Schultz -- right that's now go to former Republican -- congressman John Lebanon today.

And congressmen know former congressman.

Libertarian.

Let's pick that up right -- should the president be on vacation right now should -- be in Washington where frankly.

He seems to do more harm to the markets and good.

You look at.

Good morning cashing out what people call for.

And the call congress back I always say why do you think that -- a were were much safer when there at a but.

I don't think -- mine is the President Bush ratification I I think where He went on vacation is and if feet.

Image you know Martha's Vineyard and I think that hurdle.

I take it there's just been a terrible -- politically Earl probably leaving -- the country and they recession.

-- original that you -- been talking about.

Just politically everything has gone bad you know that debt deal to downgrade.

The bus trip.

What was if not all that well and this -- -- we need yet on the fly up.

I have a new plant but I'm not announcing -- electric Labor Day He has -- land minute they're making up the plans as they go on they don't have a plant.

And now He goes up -- I don't Monica I don't think anybody might have taken -- -- all of that but it you know.

John it's at its stake and is so good talk to you this morning.

In terms of Martha's than -- way.

What the clintons always vacation there they went there every summer and granted that they didn't really heated relate where He didn't lead the nation through times like this.

But in the past looking it -- going on vacation what is it maybe it will -- the markets in the economy that.

-- heard his certainly his approval rating on handling of the economy is at a new low.

It will hurt his chances in the next year running for -- election.

In the past when has it -- there was some mention of bush 41 when He was on vacation back in 1990.

-- -- all fit tend to the overall picture you have of Europe president on if if the economy gets better that's a huge if if it gets better no one is gonna look back and say He should or should be gone on -- If the economy does not get better then that this is just one more or the overall picture.

That that guy does not you know what he's -- we were headed towards Jimmy Carter territory.

Where the -- of -- are overwhelming.

The country.

And the president is there you know with five weeks in the -- trying to -- -- -- -- He doesn't really know what to.

He's I'm not saying he's gonna end up like that I know because I do you see I'd like Carter.

Obama has tremendous political walk mostly He seems to end up getting.

Most of what He wants He doesn't have anybody on the left like -- candidate.

Challenged Carter Obama doesn't have that he's got a united democratic or people on them.

He's not finished earnings but He -- he's on the ropes put it that.

And I think about the Iranian hostage -- -- that went so poorly and Osama bin Laden was was killed by -- -- Navy SEALs I don't.

That that stands in stark difference.

That's true and and and then there's the racial issue you know I mean.

Barack Obama is a major figure in American political history -- -- because of being the first African American president and there's a great resistance in the country.

To rebuke that after having of what didn't have they they you know I think that's a factor so that should -- Until I want to get back to what the president should do is it that He is somewhat.

You say doesn't seem to have a plan and it certainly is the image we getting across.

He hasn't surrounded himself with a lot of really great economic advises and certainly and his cabinet there was no business.

People -- business experience.

From.

He's known as the consensus builder rent some tiny have to take the lead right and is that what what we're not getting from him.

Well actually to -- should -- smaller.

Generally what is good politics is bad economics and what is good economics is bad well.

What has been good politics this summer is cut cut cut cut spending cut spending cuts but that is bad economics.

We believe.

And a struggling.

S number one number two.

He had and still has I think the opportunity after Labor Day just as much as some speech.

Is dumped Geithner who wants to wave -- to your leading economic advisor get about it -- wanted to call.

And bring in a heavyweight that will compound the markets and make them believe that Obama's not anti business -- and has a new approach.

And structure on -- on every regularly with a little bacon and copilot and may doing a little bank.

Has suggested bringing -- Erskine Bowles who is from North Carolina was Clinton's chief staff.

And would be assemble of fiscal restraint to see headed up the sensible commission and that would probably do a good bank.

For everybody.

And it -- face for the team.

Heading into election year could.

It pretty widely ignored the Simpson Bowles recommendations which I thought -- pretty well full felt.

It's the game plan for our gonna get out of this problem is that commission and for Obama that's -- biggest mistake.

I think since the health -- bill was ignoring.

A commission He created.

Yeah but John in terms of you know there was a story in the Washington Post about this yesterday it's kind of idea is trickling out of the White House about what the president will propose when it comes back from vacation after Labor Day.

And it looks like that He will that he's gonna try once again make the argument for spends now.

Austerity later and try and come up with maybe some.

Tax breaks for hiring people for corporations but also against spending on its spending on construction.

And I don't wonder if there won't be pressure.

He even put on Republican congressman to do something.

What if if this economy and if this market continues to get worse because people start to feel very differently and act very differently when they too were under the.

By two things one just pick a number at a -- -- say He proposed a 100 billion.

Dollar but jobs plant under current.

I believe the house Republican -- say they have we would be willing to do it but -- hundred billion -- to come from already appropriated money.

OJ got a stake get out of other programs that we are not increasing the deficit and the debt another panic and I think -- their position.

So here's what He could -- He could say.

Here's a hundred billion worth of projects.

That I -- -- on that will create jobs quickly.

And all hundred go to problem our roads buildings -- -- weren't going wants to build in -- outlook and districts.

But about the -- Let's see if they'll turn that down and it might I don't know I I think the other the other thing to do what it is a massive quick.

Simplification of the federal tax some of the things really big.

That is like unleashing.

The economy -- we need to -- -- wet blanket on the national economy.

I had a blanket off John I've been saying that those Republicans need to make that there on the -- of the democratic end and that was -- -- -- they got to do something about it and you start talking about this tax breaks and they start on why don't know about that one I like that one of on.

Doing great thanks it's always terrific talks need -- -- -- -- -- former New York congressman John.
