-- Boehner trying to get the votes He needs to pass the debt deal through the house a vote is expected to Begin in about half an hour just thirty minutes away.
His biggest obstacle members of the Tea Party joining -- now one of those voting no congressman Connie Mack of Florida congressman welcome to the show.
And hello much why are you voting now.
It's simple we have fourteen trillion dollars plus in debt right now.
And when this bill passes we will have authorized for over seventeen trillion dollars of debt.
With no way -- -- no plan or no path to bring that down.
We cannot continue to carry that kind of debt when our income or revenues are about two trillion a year.
We're borrowing money to pay the difference.
And we're increasing the debt -- you know if if the federal government was an individual.
That individual wouldn't be able to afford it.
To get a credit card because the debt to income ratio is so out of whack so as long as we're gonna continue to raise the debt ceiling without any structural way.
To cut spending I can't support.
Congressman I think I -- characterize.
-- not officially -- Tea Party member but I guess you as share some of the same feeling some of the same points of view.
I want you go to respond to some of the criticism of the Tea Party.
People -- -- was a lot of it on a Sunday morning talk shows people saying that.
Tea Party -- objections to the Boehner bill.
You know -- -- congress making the possibility of default likely.
And now I want to hear what a couple other people said today representative Mike Doyle saying we have negotiated with terrorists.
Being cheaper -- this small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.
The vice president than China been Joseph Biden saying they have acted like terrorists is that fair character -- characterization.
Now and it's ridiculous and you know what the American people know that what the American people know and understand is they're not looking for a deal.
Looking for some grand compromise.
They're looking for a solution.
So if Biden and others want to call members of the Tea Party names.
And take their ball and go home that's fine but the rest of us are gonna continue to fight.
For ways to bring down the debt and eliminate the deficit and that I think you're aware -- offered a piece of legislation.
Called the Mac -- plan.
That will cut 1% a year for six years.
Caps spending -- 18% of GDP.
Balance the budget in eight years and cut seven point five trillion dollars in ten years.
Everyone who's watching your shows had to take more than one penny.
Out of -- out of a dollar of their budget at home and the federal government needs to take just one -- Out of every federal dollar to make sure that we balance the budget analyst and -- a path of eliminating our debt.
Nobody is questioning your seriousness about the topic that's for darn sure.
But -- find too that the accusations.
That the Tea Party has pushed the country to the brink to the brink of default.
With its only concern being getting a balanced budget amendment that's that's how people who criticized the Tea Party.
That's that's their point of view what would you say to them.
I would say we've been pushed to the brink.
Because social engineering the thought of government is gonna do everything for everybody and that we need more and more government look the Democrats have proven over and over again.
That for them this debate is about more taxes and more spending.
And Republicans whether your Republican or a member of the Tea Party Republican you wanna cut spending.
Now people like me.
I don't I don't think we're going far enough in fact I think we ought to have real cuts right now instead of talking about raising the debt ceiling.
We need to be cutting spending so we don't have to raise the debt ceiling.
So those the people that -- to criticize and put down the Tea Party look.
If it wasn't for the -- part of the members of the Tea Party here.
In Washington we would be looking at a planned a deal that raises taxes.
-- be looking at even more spending.
So I I think a lot of credit goes to people who identify themselves with the Tea Party.
It's brought passion back to a debate about what's the role of government and more spending.
Destroys the freedoms of all Americans we need to cut spending get our fiscal house in order and give back the American dream to everyone in America so they have an opportunity for freedom.
Well I -- congressman Mack I guess we'll find out tonight what congress and the senate is gonna do appreciate talking to you in the day you must come back.
