Children should always eat their vegetables right the federal government doesn't think so it -- potatoes at the latest threat to your kids health.
Newly proposed USDA school wants regulations would allow schools to serve kids just one cup of starchy vegetables a week.
Here to discuss are the freedom fighters America's foundation -- -- Bill Foster.
Newsday columnist Ellis head again and -- to freedom watch -- this minute financial advisor Lenore Hawkins.
I -- go to you on this 11 -- Do you have kids I don't you don't have kids we have kids.
You think it's okay for the -- it fell to watch out for the big -- of the potato they can kill again if if and and I think at the end of the day and.
And an ideal world parents would make decisions about what their kids are eating not bureaucrats I mean one of the consequences of having a centralized.
Public school system that's kind of run top down is it everything gets politicized even what ends up on our kids plates it's difficult to think about this story.
And not think about all of the subsidies that are handed out to farmers around the country.
It's it's typical not to see the political angle here.
I you know -- did the idea here is that the nanny state run amok you know I'll go 11 potato week what's -- -- that.
No and the constitution as the federal government.
Given that power to dictate the contents of a student alliance.
But once you start with a national education system.
-- supervision -- -- and and you have government provided meals controls are going to follow I'll.
However under the constitution we are the stewards of our public but we have given up our responsibilities and the corresponding freedoms that come with that.
Under some -- of government provided.
Care taking they're going to keep us on how safe.
We are the ones responsible for dictating what we eat and what our children eat and only have the inalienable right to pursue our own happiness.
Even that is found in -- friends yeah you're.
Absolutely right we have given up these powers and I gotta tell you going to thing out of this balance this maybe they'll be a black marking a -- may god upon which might -- I -- some extra money.
Smuggling -- French -- is global.
I gotta nickel bag of the Tate is where you just listen I cannot believe that you guys are coming out in favor of -- children's series like.
I did I understand bikinis and eat candy bars -- -- -- to dreadful stuff in the parents of the big responsibility.
But when kids get a -- program at school don't want it to be helping him noticed.
How many little chubby kids around this is not good for them -- -- -- don't be in favor of fat -- these.
-- are -- because they don't have examine them and they do have -- play games are no winners -- losers things that Iran played videogames of the a lot of I think they're branded.
Abraham and again I think what we have heard about why -- well look I -- -- but the airline okay.
You look at.
That is the lawmakers in congress -- -- was short term stopgap measure the -- -- Federal Aviation Administration opened well.
If the partial shut down on Friday.
But really would have been so bad -- the FAA got -- -- split one arm really.
What -- it's not a bad thing.
-- really down again once again the government waits until the eleventh hour to do something you can you imagine an.
Family -- company -- company operating this way but they wait -- the problems on fire before they address it.
Well good to think come down to really three main issues and one of these issues is unionizing the workers.
I'm completely against unionization of any government workers for the simple reason that there's no checks and balances.
If -- prior enterprise decides to unionize they thinks competitive pressures and help keep the union in check so that the union gold.
Don't run counter to the best interest of the company.
With the government you don't have those kinds of checks and balances.
As is evidenced by the fact that governor employees get about 200%.
In their total compensation about what the press sec right.
Received in -- Camilla even FDR didn't want to have a public sector workers to be unionized she saw the wisdom in that.
Yet know but but but let's get back to the FAA -- and being partially shut down.
Pros cons.
Well I think that there.
There are some some major -- -- in Canada since 1996 has had a private.
Company taking care -- there there aviation administration.
I don't see any reason I've I've never seen compelling reason and -- for the federal government to be involved in directing airplanes -- does -- more efficiently.
More affordably.
And it's more.
I'm sorry -- there was safe and with a safer track record in the United States as we've had any number of close calls here in the last year.
Let's let's get rid of the FDA especially at a time when we have been a budget crisis.
I don't know I have to listen to that -- I feel like man made yesterday flying and over Canada's -- there rather than aren't familiar it is a pretty good points here.
You know -- Remember this being such a big problem before Reagan busted tactical this element of these kind of problems closer than guys.
Song things and you all reluctant to acknowledge his but some things the government does better than profit making all these -- this that fight -- by giving wall.
How to do -- thing I want you know what I would rather have the one thing might it might.
Their country controls be concerned about was my safety not what that this stockholder and to getting a better return on their -- but apparently I apparently in Canada that's not a problem.
Well I'll tell us what what are we worried about here okay you know -- it's hard.
Our mission driving down the road you're not so worried about whether or not they want to make a profit on your car they -- -- don't make any agency or.
I guess that it didn't have the greater effect sneak we will take candidates health plan and I'll go long -- -- appetite and I wanted to.
Not we'll take.
That you don't know -- I don't Friday hours after AA they don't get this funding are -- -- stop flying.
Not by Doug got to fly on Saturday and I think I'm getting a lot of delays of only -- I would like you know -- I mean broad realistically though.
This is another opportunity another window of opportunity may be the -- That is too much government out there.
And that's really -- -- -- the greater interest in the safety of planes maybe that companies that spend billions of dollars.
Building these planes and putting this infrastructure into the airports.
-- the only thing you've got with the government if things don't go out some sort of political embarrassment I'd rather go with somebody best answer to shareholders.
And -- lots of fortune.
You know -- that's a great point we're talking about a caliber accountability here.
And he really don't get that -- these workers are these big unions around you know guys are absolutely right I got absolutely right we're gonna leave it there.
From New York defend.
