It asked me cut cap and balance the bill that links to higher debt ceiling with a constitutional amendment to balance the budget.

Passed in the house by a 234.

To 119.

Vote late Tuesday.

Next step for the bill could be a vote in the senate but there's already clear resistance to a cut happened balance plan.

Just listen to democratic senator Barbara Mikulski of -- -- staying out.

-- -- -- just fallen off or -- -- all stupid thing gains.

Joining me now Ohio congressman Jim Jordan chairman of the Republican Study Committee.

Congressman great to have you care to respond again to senator Mikulski that I mean that that is amazing I -- a scam I think was the words -- you didn't mean to think about this.

This is a common sense of planned common sense approach we say let's reduce spending in this first year the one year we can control and make -- law about.

That's capped spending as a percent of our economy going forward after -- most Americans don't want government to just growing growing well.

And then let's put in place a balanced budget requirement.

Every family.

Every small business every -- -- every county every municipality every state everybody has to abide by balanced budget requirement.

Except oh by the way that that one entity that has a fourteen trillion dollar debt the federal government.

So for for -- us to say that just makes no us and it's it's it's a native advice frankly laughable -- what it's a serious.

Well here's the problem that was cut -- and balance and I understand that obviously you're in favor of -- a lot of Tea Party members even Republicans and well -- But the president has said he.

Reject the excel I know you've been on the record congressman is saying biggest cut -- -- balance is the compromise.

But it looks like you're going to have to go further.

Well well look -- -- -- -- go for because we got the right plan it's the only -- on the table to -- yet to pull one out there and this idea that the you know we always listen to the conventional wisdom.

You're never gonna accomplish anything that really matters to me the I tell folks if the founders would listen to the conventional wisdom we never have United States of America so you know.

Every Friday night.

One team's favorite.

The other -- may be a big underdog they still kick the ball off and sometimes the underdog wins so my challenge -- to Harry Reid.

Bring it up in the Senate's bring the bill up have a debate have the vote and if you get enough to pass it -- into the president and let's actually see if -- wouldn't be so this common sense plan.

That the American people are embracing.

Most likely amount you have philosophy in -- strategy put forth.

By a lot of Republicans -- okay we're gonna put cut -- -- balance in the house haven't passed state -- point and now that opens up some flexibility and how modern if you will so that.

We can't compromise in May be bringing the gang of six planning now work from there.

Well look -- -- it is like.

War needs and for -- whole bunch of numbers and I think 234.

Members who voted for this last night.

It wasn't a strategy this is what we believe in this is why we came to congress to do big bold things and fix the country we actually believe imagine -- We actually believe that this fixes the problem and that's why we're for it's not a game it's not a strategy it's not political posturing.

This is what we believe.

That's why -- -- and that's why we're gonna stand for because we know what's what will work what will ultimately solve our fiscal problems.

So how can you beat the resistance.

You just keep -- on the same way any underdog.

You just keep engaging in the fight you talk about why it makes sense and you press on and at some point.

Hopefully enough people figure out this is the right can get this is also what's gonna say become and -- would say this there's all this talk about the gang of six.

Let's focus on the gang of 234.

34 members.

Last night on the floor of the house voted for.

34 minutes in a bipartisan fashion at five in the -- from what was thought this is the.

Since for the American people and it's exactly what the country.

-- -- but a lot of people would say to you congressman that compromises the new reality.

In Washington this is what it's going to take to get some debt ceiling -- deficit reduction plan put forth so where do you go from here.

You know what compromises got us compromises -- A fourteen -- our national debt.

Compromises always -- like this gang of six -- raise taxes now on the spending cuts well they'll happen sometime in the values what they never seen immaterial like compromise is always these -- to get played Washington.

We're here to say look.

This is a plan that works.

This is a plan to make sense this is a plan that is is is what the country needs at this defining and critical moment in our history if we don't do something quickly.

The window of opportunity to fix this mess is closing very rapidly we'll do something now.

The future for our kids and a great if we don't know what that's gonna look like but we know to be -- we don't start to fix it and fix the problem right now.

How concerned are you that the foundation of the tea parties being rocked by this because I know it's -- clear it's out there.

No new taxes deep spending cuts up do you feel that to maintain the foundation and the priorities the Tea Party have to stick with this belief.

And on the look we're sticking with the split because it's the right thing to do certain of the Tea Party supports it.

But so do independents so do Republican so -- didn't tell me one thing about this plan that's what I've posted the Democrats all the time tell me one thing about this plan.

That doesn't make sense but it's what -- actually -- if you want our need to cut spending.

It's not fraction Republican Party lead to a 34 people vote for last like 229 the Republicans which we get a lot of those who -- -- -- did vote what we'll likely to compromising even agreed to some kind of revenue -- -- we put up they better not agree to revenue raisers.

Code for taxes.

Mean that that is -- last -- our small business owners and our economy needs to create jobs.

-- better not happen and I don't think there's I don't think there's any support -- this gang of six playing with all the tax increases that it contains avenues any support for that.

We need to be focused on the cut kept -- balance went to continue to see mister president.

Put your plan on the table.

Let's put your planning gets our -- let's have a national debate for the next two weeks so we'll decide sometime next week.

So you don't think the debt ceiling obviously should go up at all but it looks like it probably will but that's not our problem right now according to the economist.

It's about the spending cuts and I -- you agree with me on this point that were risking.

A downgrade if we don't get these deep spending cuts so really and we have to move past -- the debt ceiling issue itself and talk about the meaningful changes deficit.

Production -- Great point we're gonna have a downgrade if we don't put in place a plan that fixes the long term problem it's not about just getting passed next week in his debt -- issue.

We're headed for a debt crisis if we don't put in place the right kind of think and and and change this fiscal path -- -- -- -- -- on and get it under control and move towards balance.

That's what our plan does congressman Jim Jordan is actually talking thank you so much here here's.
