-- -- Carl's proposal known as the last resort plan looked to be getting support from both sides of the aisle.
But our next guest has openly mocked the plan and vowed to do everything he can to stop it joining us is -- -- the minutes South Carolina.
Author of the book the great American awakening sir thank you for your retirement congratulations on the book.
-- Thank you Charles.
Last two years and the next two years.
Well I got to tell you something a lot of people forget that the power is -- bears and they've actually given away to Washington DC.
Well let's talk about developments because -- rapidly changing every minute here and now we're hearing the gang of six is back.
With a plan that sounds almost incredible with respect -- what they think they can cut.
And that's still you know not spend as much money where your initial impressions of the -- -- -- latest revision.
Well as we just heard on your show that -- details are lacking there's really only one proposal.
And actually is written and will be voted on and that is a cut camp -- proposal house will pass.
Today and send over to the senate now some folks are mocking that is a -- never pass because it requires a balanced budget amendment.
But -- over twenty Democrat senators who have expressed support and actually run campaigns on support for balanced budget amendment.
I'm afraid if we give up on -- and our budget we're going to give up on our country so.
That is still my focus -- don't know enough about gang of six proposal but I do know the only reason the president.
Is now stepping up and saying he might support this.
Is that Republicans are now on the offense with a plan that would increase the debt lemon in a way that Moody's and has an S&P.
Would recognize as credible long term deficit reduction.
You know senator event did -- and I also believe that movement on this cut -- -- balance actually.
It's Expedia -- any ultimate solution now -- because Ron Paul I think you -- a lot of book fiscal you know ideology together.
He's come out against cut -- -- and it's because he's saying.
The balanced budget part of it wouldn't cut any of the sacred cows it wouldn't cut military wouldn't cut Social Security wouldn't cut Medicare suspend its is.
Ridiculous to think that we can actually have a balanced budget without cutting those items so to you isn't possible that we could achieve this balanced budget without.
Going up to some of these sacred cows.
We'll have the first line the first number that has to go down and any budget we have to do it in our families -- did in my business for years states have to do it.
Is what is your revenue what what what do you expect your income to be the whole point of a balanced budget amendment is that we start budgeting.
Based on how much is coming in so -- we don't keep borrowing forty cents on every dollar.
So the balanced budget amendment is not -- to decide what we're gonna cut.
Or if we're gonna raise taxes what it's saying is that the states are gonna vote and ratified.
A constitutional requirement that we do have to balance our budget.
And when that happens Charles the Republicans and Democrats are on the same -- we may disagree about what needs to be cut how much.
But we all agree that we have to balance our budget and that's what's happening in all the states right now.
They're -- to make the hard decisions to balance their budget.
The federal government needs to do that so I'm afraid that any proposal that doesn't have a balanced budget amendment to at least let the states decide.
Keep in mind we're not pass a balanced budget amendment that's gonna go into effect immediately.
The states would take two or three years to ratify it if they did it all and then five years after that is when it takes effect if we -- balance our budget in the next decade.
Now the rest of this makes any different.
OK and your book their -- -- -- things -- -- by what was that quote to you said the -- old senate traditions.
-- have to go.
Does this mean that the worst thing that would -- like they're brewing war civil war within a GOP.
That this is gonna continue to escalate where the old line of thinking where many public relations came first instead of getting things done.
Is this what you are seeing gonna continue because what you said about McConnell plan being cut run and hide.
What's the personal attack it felt like -- -- outsiders.
Actually barred that from a some outside group that -- using it.
But I don't like the plan we were elected in November to get control spending and debt not to make it easier.
-- just spend money and to increase our debt and where.
Where we were elected to create something where we couldn't get blamed for something we were really doing so obviously I don't like the plan we've got a much better idea.
It just -- deal with the spending directly and set a goal to balance our budget in the next ten years but.
The great American awakening is just designed to show people what goes on behind closed doors.
When they get active when they go to rallies when they email or call their congressman or senators.
It starts to change things inside her and we have changed the senate we band earmarks were now focused on the national good rather than taken on the bacon.
We still got a long way to go but I just want people to know the power to save our country -- -- in their hands.
I don't disagree if you burning got thirty seconds also new book you talk -- -- about Obama's socialist agenda.
Do you still think there's -- did this socialist and if so what does that mean for the country.
Well every proposal he's made his government centric that means it gives the government more control or power and our lives whether it's health care whether it's banking.
Any area is -- more control and ownership by the federal government.
-- that's socialism in my mind and I think we need to pull back from that but the only chance of doing it is at the same people who were active.
And 2010 are even more active in 2012.
Well good luck with the book and thank you very much for your time senator Jim the -- we truly a --
