Fire and now on fire it's about nine months since national public radio through journalist Juan Williams under the political correctness -- why because he spoke his mind on Fox News about his post 9/11 anxiety with Muslims implying.
But now -- is firing back with his new book.
-- the assault on on this debate a title that sums it all up Fox -- political analyst Juan Williams joins me now.
Good to see again one.
Thanks Michael good to be -- you know whatever the debate comes up for those of us have had our own issues -- being fired.
The towards a question of.
Presentation is as free speech it was -- the constitution etc.
but to me what's -- about your booking approaches.
What support every free speech -- that was too scared to have honest open debate.
What I.
Exactly -- I'm so -- thank you for reading it I act in army I think it's compelling argument especially at this time.
When you see people paralyzed over major issues facing -- the country.
Ranging from the budget debate in Washington to illegal immigration.
To the fact that we have to deal with terrorism honestly and call it what it is if we intend to stop it.
So are all these fronts I think we're at a moment where we need people to say what they think they what they feel it come to the table honestly be willing to hear the other side.
And then be willing to.
Negotiate debate bargain -- -- I think that's what's missing I think a lot of people just they hate I'm standing on principle or this is but this is the -- I'm making for one side or the other guys stop and think eight.
But I wanna talk to you with situation may change times may change we've got to -- that -- politicians.
Not -- campaign -- -- tell us what we want to hear but at some point.
-- Syrians and Garber.
But the problem is you get these -- but I'm land mines -- -- laid out.
If you're on the left -- you start talking about American foreign policy is certainly you'll need to get counted as you're not a patriot -- America don't support the troops but then on the right -- you for example gonna criticize President Obama.
It's also the knee jerk response -- because he's black isn't it but what I'm about debt ceilings here with -- got to do breaks.
How do you navigate these landmines that have been set -- by both sides to catch people instead -- to engage in debate.
You know.
Bless you Michael I just think you've got the heart of his book down it is so funny and that you know I think -- the word funny but -- yet you used the word funky.
It's strange.
You know you can be on the right and you can say you know what I have real concerns about what's going on in Afghanistan and our long term president they would be in the right -- years we spent billions billions of dollars so many young people have died.
And -- -- -- went out that's not the right position you take -- your conservative right is there -- -- -- second did you hear what I said that you hear my genuine concern I'm an American you're American and -- and if you're on the left.
And you start saying hey you know what.
In terms.
These unions who put money.
Into politics democratic politicians pockets and then the politicians get the unions all kinds of benefits and sweetheart deals that cost the taxpayers billions.
It was -- one auto Europe Democrat you're liberal you can't say that give you a bad guy.
And I must tell you Michael you know on the racial front there's certain things -- I think you know.
Sometimes when I watch the Al sharpton's of the world are these of the -- I think these guys -- -- you know you can't say that you're black you know you can't say that that's offensive.
That's -- craziest thing I've heard Michael.
But one that it wasn't pleasing to me as I try to talk about results did a policy work and neither they -- appreciable -- -- why believe this elect believes that.
I wanna know -- can can you say Juan Williams as someone who has been trending let.
Can we say the stimulus didn't work -- we just say that yet.
That we have that debate is -- gonna go right back into like you're Republicans are you hated in the first place did -- did not work out.
Now that you see here's -- thing.
I happen to think the stimulus had some impact on the society and on the economy.
But the point is Michael to have that debate.
Now you can say to me want to look at the high unemployment rate it has persisted and it's over 9% and and I can say to you Michael.
I really think that we were going into serious deep water and turns out not just recession but potentially depression if we didn't take.
Steps including bailing out Wall Street bailing out GM.
Putting more money into infrastructure -- And -- expressed especially state government spending at that time so that we really didn't lose control of the economy at a critical moment.
But I understand your point and I want to discuss that with you.
And no I don't think -- just because you're raising that point that you're pursuing some dogmatic orthodox position I think you're an honest person -- -- grant you and help you grant me.
A level up credibility.
And you know substances they.
I want to sit down and talk to Michael about it -- one -- look you know I love you we got to go -- one of my favorite liberal you're right almost 30% of the time which is amazing I've gotten -- Not a -- -- when it comes out it's a terrific terrific book thank you line.
-- -- You thought that.
