One of terror warning tonight has airports on high alert the government reportedly warning that terrorists are considering.
Surgically implanting explosives into human bodies.
Joining me now for more on this and other developing stories Clifford May president of the foundation for.
Defense of democracies.
All right cliff.
Are we say that now with these explosives being implanted that the machines we had to detect these explosives wouldn't be able to do such.
That's probably right the machines we have a probably not be able to detect.
Explosives that were surgically implanted.
And the possibility of that happening it could happen look Ayman Al zawahiri -- a new had about Qaeda he is a surgeon a physician.
By training so we've -- our enemies.
Our creative and they will always try to find a way around.
And either recourse since we take especially if -- questions we are bureaucratic rather than creative themselves we have to start to think like the terrorists we want to defeat them.
And we see that we've been saying this for ten years and yet we're still chasing we BC to be chasing the latest -- whether it's the shoes.
Whether it's chemicals and now you know the surgical implants.
Is there anything that the the airports can do quickly.
The sort of at least temporarily position themselves to defend against.
But the most important thing we should be doing is spending less time and energy looking for weapons and spending more time and energy looking for terrorists.
We spend with the transportation safety security authority and there's some good people there nonetheless they look in people's pocketbooks.
And look at the Israelis they look at people's eyes they ask some questions now I've talked to people at the TSA about this and -- -- -- about -- about this.
And there is that transition -- perhaps beginning to take place but it's still be too bureaucratic from what I can understand it's still not intelligence based.
We need to know who the terrorists are because look like -- train terrorists can take a pen and use it as a weapon so we're not gonna find the weapons but we may be able to find the terrorists.
They we can does that mean profiling yes but it means behavioral profiling not racial profiling keep in mind somebody who's involved in a suicide bombing.
Probably is gonna give some tips as to what he's up to he's probably nervous.
You don't find a lot of experience suicide bombers you think about it so there are ways to do this and we have to concentrate on.
Cliff -- wanna switch gears a little -- here wanna talk about than the news about Iraq.
On the US it seems they prepared to keep 101000 troops in Iraq when I first heard this at least -- headline I thought that's a big number that's a lot more than I originally thought.
It seems like.
You're gonna keep 101000 Iraq how many and had to keep in Afghanistan.
How many AM at the -- in some of these other corners of the earth and for how many years it seems like a lot more than most Americans would be willing to swallow.
Keep in mind after the World War II how many years and we keep troops in Europe and in the Pacific well the answer is we still have troops in Europe and the Pacific.
And if we want to have an influence in the Middle East.
Where they're still tremendous threats to us.
Iran is the most important but also of the various terrorist groups many of which Iran supports in one way or another then we're gonna have to have troops on the ground if it becomes clear that we're leaving.
And the Iranians are staying.
Everything that we fought for in Afghanistan and Iraq and elsewhere will be lost.
These are long term commitments but again.
World War II was not over in 1945.
It would there and -- we're still in South Korea as well we fought that for a long time ago this is the what does this is just the reality.
You know the reality of -- of Europe and while we had so many bases there was really because of the Cold War you know the war ends and we're rebuilding Europe but we had to keep bases in Germany went up because of the Cold War now there's a big -- at the close many of those bases in our cost cutting.
That may be possible Soviet Union no longer exists the Russians I don't think our allies but they're not our enemies.
On the other hand while the Soviet Union doesn't exist.
Iran does and Iran is sworn into a world without America a Iran is building nuclear weapons Iran is building the missiles to deliver them and Iran supports terrorist groups -- is collaborating with our enemies to kill Americans in Afghanistan was doing and he is doing that.
In Iraq as well -- has real big ambitions in the Middle East.
They -- very anti American and we have to think about what we're gonna do about that and if you leave if you abandon the of these countries and that would like some protection.
-- you have to figure they're gonna get taken over by Iran one way or another Clifford May it always -- chatting -- -- -- -- there.
Thank you Chris -- come on --
