So how do you keep your faith in yourself after two straight years of being called a loser.

Auburn Coach gene -- not only kept the faith but he turned around his losing record -- I was state.

And went on arbor where he ended last season with -- perfect fourteen -- And this is a national championship we got.

And a trip to the White House as well to celebrate his new book is out today it is called all went.

What it takes to be the best and I am pleased to welcome to scoreboard the Coach himself good to see -- see -- thanks for being here so how do you.

How do you push all -- negativity.

Out -- -- keep from getting depressed when he got to losing season two years in a row.

-- talk about that a lot in the book David actually it really goes back to faith.

And what an important role that plays in my life and and really in this world of college football.

There's so many -- are so many downs you can't buy and all that you've got to keep a steady -- guessed they focus on what's important in your life.

And I talk about -- -- saints by the way have moments of -- I mean you know as a Mother Teresa had moments ago so it must have been some time to and -- negativity sunk in a little bit.

Well you know we talk about it in the book we talk about this circle that we have -- the people inside the circle the ones that really the really matters to ish you know you got to block out all the outside.

I -- was gonna have an opinion everybody's gonna have.

You know something to say but the but the shortages not read the newspapers in turn off the television and radio and all the sports commentators -- got great people around in my wife my family the people that I count on the most.

And again it goes back to the faith that I have in.

Where I'm supposed to be at this point in time I'm supposed to be here I'm here for reason I've got a destination and I feel very confident that so I don't pay attention a lot of the outside world I just try to keep -- it's.

-- is -- -- right is Ames Iowa Ames is a kind of a small town I -- compared to New York anyway and -- -- -- you must have been hearing a lot from her neighbors in the people as you walked by industry.

Well you know we were in -- rebuilding process I think people have a little bit of forgiveness.

You know when it comes to that -- and again I think that people did see some progress.

But five and nineteen were the two numbers that stood out and everybody knew that but.

Again we were gonna stay steadfast to what we believe are well what it Auburn CMU.

You know what's really it was really -- unique dynamic I was there before the defense coordinator for three years had a lot of success while I was there.

They knew me they knew -- -- was they knew what I stood for the -- what I believe again.

I was actually voted nation's top assistant Coach while I was there are so I think that -- understood that in two years you just don't become a bad football Coach.

Hello one thing one thing you talked about in your book is how on the day of the interview.

Just coming off the back surgery you were you -- drugs that your take because the pay was divested days for you wasn't no wasn't you I didn't have a great outlook that -- you know it was.

One of the most important days my life -- yet it was very challenging because I just had back surgery the day before.

But you know what it all fell on the place everything worked for the better how do you think was just divine Providence or what well I talk about that in the book a little bit you know that was you know again going back to my faith in in where I belong where I'm supposed to be.

It was just one of those days that.

You know I knew the people who was interviewing me -- -- the people who were doing the hiring they knew who I was.

And they know what my vision was for Auburn university and former football and that's what -- laid out -- laid out a plan for my vision what I thought it would take one champion.

So for the folks out there don't have as much as spiritual connection as you do win and who might have -- and realize what you're saying but but -- a little encouragement about what else to do what should you do if you're if you're beaten down -- -- -- -- -- -- -- looking -- -- They've gone to their 153 or 100 -- view and if we get another rejection how would you tell me -- -- Well I didn't talk about that you know everybody's got their five in nineteen if you will in their lives that could be the loss of a job that could be -- loss of a spouse there's so many people that really encounter -- the five in nineteen world and my.

Really the the universal message for this book is a message of hope and encouragement because.

You've got to states stay steadfast in what you believe what you know was the right thing hard work and really pressing forward.

Not worrying about what everybody else thinks you can or can't do.

And really that's what we did and so it's an encouraging word for everybody that's encounter in their own five and.

-- and and I got to ask they can't let the every goal that I suspect Cam Newton number one draft pick NFL you work with -- there was those huge controversy about whether or not.

His dad was encouraging him to take money from various various colleges -- what lessons if -- was there for you from that.

Well I think the most important thing going back to -- one year period their -- It was never let all this -- stuff bother his -- he had a great season not one here he is a phenomenal young man that's why I don't wanna get lost not.

Everybody's gonna remember him as a great football player this was a great young man a great individual.

And what he did for all Byrne -- will never be forgotten.

But let's also not forget that this is a great young man as well as -- -- play well what you did for arbor and it's never gonna be forgotten and not -- recent territory all end.

Is -- name of the book Coach I thank you very much for coming in scoreboard appreciate pleasure to be -- welcome back any time.
