This weekend will be celebrating American independence it's also the release date of the documentary the lieutenant Dan band for the common good but.

It follows the -- two year journey playing concerts to troops all over the world.

And as you've probably guessed from the title the star of the movie is -- man who play lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump.

Gary Sinise joins me now great to see you thanks for him are right let's talk about your foundation first of what.

-- trying to do for military service members.

Well I've been very very active on the on the troop support front firm for many years.

In getting in involved in all kinds of initiatives all sorts of different fund raising efforts for different organizations and popped up.

You know in the last ten years to support our troops support our families.

You know help our wounded warriors out these kinds of things and -- You know I -- I got to the point where it was like well do I pull back through -- ramped up a little bit and I thought the next logical step for me was to create an entity.

-- -- -- Which is devoted to serving on -- -- need.

Our service members of their families are veterans first responders.

And just to try to provide an avenue for other people get involved so we're gonna be sort of a receptacle for.

And a conduit for people to.

Who want to get involved with other organizations to find out about -- -- organizations.

And if you wanna support for financially through the duration -- foundation where will will be happy.

And it supports all kinds of good works.

What we military the kind of all over the place.

I wanna talk a little bit about the movie and what you're doing with the movie described the -- to it.

Well the movie is was made by -- -- -- -- Jonathan flora who came to me you know awhile back having found out that I was.

Doing a lot on the -- support from the asked if -- could document a little bit so.

I think part of it it's really compelling.

And it and it really tells the story of the lieutenant Dan band in your friends and how you got together and how you got involved in all -- share with our audience.

Why you became so committed to people in the military.

I have I have veterans in my family have been involved with veterans for many years.

Especially -- -- Vietnam veterans groups back in the eighties who.

You know we will we remember what happened to our Vietnam veterans when they came home that was it was a bad time for them not only to go serve in Vietnam -- -- have to come home to a divided nation and deal with that and we don't want that to happen to our veterans again if you're gonna serve in the military service you should be appreciated them and thanked.

We want to make sure that we take care of all our veterans during the battle before the battle and after the battle.

And so -- you know I just got out there and started doing what I could to support them and and their families and you know you see a little bit of -- first hand through the the documentary.

It documentary and it it it documents this band you formed which ultimately became lieutenant Dan band you travel all over the globe.

They've -- pretty rough go of it.

Losing.

Apparent in the war and we want to make sure they leave behind better than talent walked in okay.

I got very involved of them after September 11 and and -- just extraordinary extraordinary people through this work.

I'm just trying to give back to them I think it's important to keep our first responders and our military strong their families are stressed right now.

So I'm trying to just do what I can to draw attention to them.
